Founded in 2008, Patheos.com is the premier online destination to engage in the global dialogue about religion and spirituality and to explore and experience the world"s beliefs. Patheos is unlike any other on- or off-line resource. It is designed to provide information about different religious belief systems, as well as a forum for productive, moderated conversation about the big questions of our time.
The Patheos name (pronounced PA-theos) is a hybrid of "path" and "theos" (the Greek word for "god"). The name was chosen to complement the overall mission of providing resources for people to find their own path to god, in whatever ways they define that god and that path.
Husband-and-wife team, Leo and Cathie Brunnick, founded Patheos as a way to blend their passion for technology and comparative religious studies. When Leo and Cathie married in 2008, they brought together two families from different religious backgrounds and sought an online resource to help provide information and guidance on different belief systems. Unable to locate a credible and comprehensive online religious and spiritual resource, Leo and Cathie were inspired to start Patheos.
Prior to starting Patheos, the two founders' professional lives were focused on developing Web technology for some of the world's largest Web sites. In addition, Leo has always had a strong interest in comparative world religions, dedicating much of his personal time during the past 15 years to study in these areas.
