Living by Faith, Dwelling in Doubt
A Story of Belief, Uncertainty, and Boundless Love
by Kyle R. Cupp
"Candid, sincere and always refreshingly honest, Living by Faith, Dwelling by Doubt is one man's story of faith—lost and found—which will give you pause to consider your own trajectory of belief. Read, ponder and believe."
—Lisa M. Hendey, author of A Book of Saints for Catholic Moms
Kyle Cupp explores how the path we take to find our faith requires a mindful examination that ultimately strengthens our connection to God.
You might say I’m at peace with my doubts—with the tension between belief and unbelief in my faith. It’s not that I don’t struggle, but that I feel at home in the struggle.
"Cupp writes with humor, compassion, love, and no small amount of wisdom in the face of life's most profound mysteries." Read what Dr. Brian Treanor and others are saying about the new book.
"By being in love, I have experienced a being of love. I cannot mend the shattered fragments and stories of my life, and yet this being of love has called me to wholeness."
Kyle R. Cupp
Between our finite words and an infinite God there’s a lot a room for uncertainty. A lot of room for doubts. An endless space for questions and conflicts of interpretation. And I'm not sure I'd have it any other way.
Cupp’s faith is a living faith – a faith fully postmodern, not putting on a show of false orthodoxy, but like the Psalmist bringing everything to God, including anger, doubt, love, disappointment, and hope.
Doubt is not a sin. It is not a lack of faith. It is simply thinking it through.
Whenever we love, we will eventually end up in the position of Cupp, unable to offer anything except our love and our willingness to suffer with the person we love, knowing that that isn’t enough to fix the situation, but offering it anyway.
Cupp's book raises many questions that hit all people of faith square in the heart. Questions like, can I still believe while I’m doubting a God who doesn’t seem to be real or near or here?
