ABOUT THE PROGRESSIVE CHRISTIAN INITIATIVE

The Patheos Public Square is produced in partnership with an emerging national collaboration called the Progressive Christian Initiative. The PCI collaborators are notable congregations, organizations, and networks that contribute in some way to the progressive Christian conversation and that seek to amplify a progressive Christian voice in public life.

Initial PCI participants (the collaboration is expanding) include the D.L. Dykes Jr. Foundation, The Beatitudes Society, the Community Renewal Society/Protestants for the Common Good in Chicago, the First Congregational Church of Berkeley, Judson Memorial Church in New York City, the Plymouth Center for Progressive Christian Faith and Plymouth Congregational Church in Minneapolis, Progressive Christians Uniting in Los Angeles, and the Middle Collegiate Church/Middle Project in New York City.

Founded in 1882, Community Renewal informs, organizes and trains both communities and individuals to advocate for social and economic justice. To achieve our goal of a region that is free of race and class barriers, we:

—Work purposefully on multiple issues, principally housing, jobs, education and criminal justice, because they are often inter twined

—Work with a wide cross section of communities and leaders, engaging them in these critical issues

—Examine and suggest improvements in current public practices

—Expose the direct relationship between reducing social inequities and the long-term economic health of our region

—Hold government accountable for its role in breaking down race and class barriers and making the region work for all of its residentswww.communityrenewalsociety.org
