blogs save lives?

blogs save lives? April 17, 2003

A lot of people worry about whether what they read online is true or not. You hear stories all the time about people faking their identity or just generally lying online. One ends up wondering what you can really believe. How do you know if the writer of this blog is who he says he is?

Its as though some people feel that when people go online they morph into the biggest liars in the universe!

I found a classic blog entry this morning Blogs save lives which gives the lie to this myth. In a tail of deception (and of course how do we know this man is telling the truth?) this blogger tells of how he met a girl who spun him a yarn offline and one of his online pals let him in on the facts.

The internet does not make people liars. We have always been so to a greater or lesser degree. This made me think of the following biblical quote, which kind of demolishes any illusions you may still have about the essential goodness of man. (I trust that life has already disabused you of such foolish ideas!)

Bible Gateway : ROM 3;

no one does good,

not even one.”

13″Their throat is an open grave;

they use their tongues to deceive.”

“The venom of asps is under their lips.”

14″Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”

15″Their feet are swift to shed blood;

16in their paths are ruin and misery,

17and the way of peace they have not known.”

18″There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
