Huffington Post Live: Smug Married Club Debate

Tonight I was invited onto Huffington Post Live to debate attitudes to marriage from singles and attitudes to singles from marrieds. I think it was a very interesting discussion that shows the very different ways we all think.

I think I shocked them when I told the guys not to treat women like urinals. I also said that marriage is actually really hard (though rewarding!), and unless you make a decision that it is for life it’s unlikely to ever work. I told them marriage was like a death, but that in that death life comes. If you don’t understand that, when the tough times come you will want to get out. What I almost said was that the first twenty years are the hardest. By that reckoning I have less than three years to go till it gets even better than it is now!
