Every knee WILL bow!

Every knee WILL bow!  February 1, 2016

Bible PixabayAnd Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

(‭‭Mark‬ ‭14:62‬)‬‬

He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death —even to death on a cross. For this reason God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow…and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. (Phil 2:8-11, HCSB)

It’s verses like this that put pay to any notion of liberal accommodation between religions. These words destroy any idea that we as Christians basically think the same as those from other faiths.

These words are offensive to the atheist: how dare a man from 2000 years ago and 2000 miles away claim he is coming back with clouds of glory, and how could his followers say I must one day bow the knee to him?

These words will also offend the Muslim who believes Jesus is a great prophet, who never died, and who will indeed one day come back, but most certainly not to receive worship.

The polytheist hears that their many ‘gods’ are far inferior to the Man who is also God. Will deities revered by millions reall fall before a Jewish carpenter?

The Jew is told their messiah already arrived, and that he is equal to the one true God who rescued their ancestors from Egypt.

Even Jesus’ enemies, who crucified him, will one day see him for who he is. Jesus is currently content for his true nature to remain hidden from most. But he graciously chooses to reveal himself to the humble heart which seeks him.

He calls us now to willingly bow the knee, not just in a climactic moment of responding to the gospel, but every day in a thousand small decisions. Today who will rule in your life? Your own desires? The expectations of others?

Or are you today a servant of the risen Christ?
