Get Uncomfortable! Guest post by Ami Loizides Pruett

Today's is the second guest post from Ami Loizides Pruett of this summer season. Do follow her blog for more of this engaging material. This past weekend for me was spent in the hospital (nothing serious!) and the night I got out I found myself praying and kind of apologising to God for not having spent time with Him. My prayers came to a standstill as my mind churned and I thought back to the drama and fears of the last few days...hold on a second! I realised that a) there's grace and God … [Read more...]

Blessed are the pure in heart – Guest post by Hannah of Purposeful Purity

To read more from Hannah and her fellow blogger, visit Purposeful Purity. The inspiration for this post came from a John Tauler quotation (don’t be put off by the universalist beliefs- the quote is excellent!) He says:“A pure heart is a heart which finds its whole and only satisfaction in God…to which all that is not of God is strange and jarring”How we do we become so pure? Indeed, why should we try to be, since salvation is guaranteed to the believer? We know that we should be searching f … [Read more...]

Why your church doesn’t feel like family

Mark Driscoll is at his very best in the following clip. Ever wondered how family and mission entwine, especially in a growing church where you don't know anyone? Ever wished for more intimacy and a greater relational feel in your church? Ever felt neglected and rejected in your church? Ever felt like your church was not your home? Watch this clip and be prepared to be blown away. I love the way he begins: Family is a category of relationship that the world knows nothing about. What's better … [Read more...]

Video sermon on the gospel by Matt Chandler

About ten days ago, Matt Chandler preached the following sermon at Jubilee Church in London.  In it he preaches the gospel, focusing in on the parable of the prodigal son from Luke's gospel.  Many readers will remember seeing Matt's "Jesus wants the battered rose" illustration. If you want to see that illustration in context this is a good video.  It is vital that Christian's expose themselves to clear gospel teaching often. This talk will make fresh for you the wonderful good news of Jesus' de … [Read more...]

Matt Chandler On The Role Of Men

I recently listened to these three talks from Chandler about how us men should be. As Matt puts it himself, in these talks he is "going after" us. If you are a woman, suggest your husband listens to these but don't nag him about it.  If you are a man, stop what you are doing and prepare to be as challenged as I was. May God help us all to live in the good of this message and make us better husbands and fathers:Defining Masculinity (transcript) Men as Husbands (transcript) Men as Fathers … [Read more...]

Lloyd-Jones On Lust

Once again the Doctor diagnoses the human condition with timeless pinpoint accuracy in this quote:We are creatures of lust and desire and passion. Let me give you the best description ever given of humanity without Christ, humanity as it is by nature. In his epistle to Titus, Paul writes:Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, to speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men. For we … [Read more...]

Death By Love – Pastoral Application of the Atonement by Driscoll and Breshears

I want to introduce you to a very unusual book by Mark Driscoll and his writing buddy and professor, Gerry Breshears. I would go so far as to say that this is a unique book in that I have never seen anything quite like it.If their first book together, Vintage Jesus, was a light cheerful book that offended some by its use of humor and at times edgy topics for illustrations, this new book by these two men is more of a grungy, almost dark book. The video over at the ReLit site leaves you in no … [Read more...]
