Is This Five-Word Prayer One of the Best We Could Ever Pray?

My son, Joel, often wants to pray “Thank you, God, for everything!” I never know whether to congratulate him or tell him to pray a so-called "proper" prayer. Truth is, it IS a proper prayer! … [Read more...]

Now It Is Time To Pray for President Obama

Much of the world is rejoicing today. Even with the profound differences Christians have with Obama over abortion, surely we can still rejoice that in a nation where slavery and segregation are not too distant memories, a non-Caucasian will be in the White House. We can and we should be glad that this change may well lead to a reduction in the racial tensions experienced in that great nation. Who can really claim that there is still an absolute and unchanging glass ceiling when Obama just smashed … [Read more...]

Lou Fellingham's Mum Died Yesterday

Many readers of my blog will know of Lou Fellingham, and some will have been praying for the family situation she has been facing lately. Her mother, only 56, died yesterday. The family would like people who knew her to be made aware of the fact that there will be a celebration service for her on Saturday, October 18th, at Jubilee Community Centre, Charlwood Road, East Grinstead, RH19 2HL with a 4 o'clock start. All are welcome. There will be tea, coffee, and cake afterwards. Should you wish to … [Read more...]

Spurgeon on Church Statistics

Spurgeon's book, The Soul Winner, is the kind of book you really need to read several times over the course of your life. I decided to dip into it once more over the summer, and read just the first chapter. It's a book I have recommended previously. I found the following quote which is interesting. He is speaking about how church growth statistics are indicative of something. I wonder how many Spurgeon lovers today would agree with his assessment of churches which are not growing by … [Read more...]

Catching Up With Mark Driscoll

I have now published all the Mark Driscoll material from his recent visit to the UK. Don't miss the video interviews, and the Dwell material, as well as the talks from Brighton. There is a lot to absorb there. There are also three talks for church elders that I was not present at. Since his return to the US, however, this man has been nothing short of busy! He has interviewed J. I. Packer on Young Christian Leaders, and Homosexuality. He also wrote a series of blog posts on … [Read more...]

INTERVIEW – John Piper on Prayer and Bible Study

Yesterday, in the second part of my interview with John Piper, he talked about passionate preaching. Today, John talks about prayer and Bible study, and in particular, his personal "rhythm" for this important discipline. The video of this part of the interview can be seen here.*************************AdrianSo, what you’ve described — I suspect there may be many preachers out there saying, “Okay, I get what you’re saying, but how do I get to that place?” You mentioned prayer. I know … [Read more...]

Terry Virgo Quotes Forsyth on Prayer

Last week Terry shared a challenging quote about prayer. This kind of prayer that will NOT let God go, and will NOT settle for the status quo goes a long way to explaining the secret of Newfrontiers. It's a good place to start as we commence a video interview with Terry this week. Perhaps we should take note how important prayer is to both Terry and the other two people I interviewed on video at New Word Alive - Don Carson and John Piper. Here is the quote:"Lose the importunity of prayer … lose … [Read more...]

VIDEO INTERVIEW – John Piper on Prayer and Bible Study

UPDATE The written transcript of this segment of my interview with John Piper is now available. It can be read here. So far John has addressed the UK church scene and preaching. In this section of our video interview I asked him about his prayer life, which he described as prayer mingled with the Word rather than separate sections of time for prayer alone and the Word alone. He talked about his Bible study, and how that discipline, along with so many other things in his life, sometimes feels … [Read more...]

VIDEO INTERVIEW – John Piper On New Word Alive and Spring Harvest

UPDATE The written transcript of this video is now available and can be accessed here. At the recent New Word Alive conference I was able to record a four-part interview with John Piper. John rarely gives interviews of any form, so it was a real privilege, and one that I hope you will enjoy. Dr. Piper asked that we begin with prayer. His humble request of God that, for the sake of others, he would help us in our conversation was no mere lifeless routine. Here is a man who oozes the … [Read more...]
