In London? Go to Wembley and see Love Beyond Musical TONIGHT

Thanks to the kindness of the organizers, I was able to attend last night's performance of the musical Love Beyond in which the Bible gets the West End treatment. I went with six children (no, I haven't had another kid, one of them just brought a friend!). Their ages went from 17 down to 7, and they all loved it. Even though it went on until late, they were humming some of the tunes on the way home. It was well worth the additional challenge of getting them up for school this … [Read more...]

Understanding the violent age the OT occurred in

I thought it was high time I returned to the long running series of posts about leadership lessons from I and II Samuel. Sometimes as you read Scripture you come to a chapter that at first glance it is hard to get comfort, a teaching, or instruction from. 1 Samuel 27 is one such chapter.  In it we see one of the Bible's leading heroes running away, allying himself with God's enemies, ingratiating himself by raiding other villages and leaving nobody alive, and convincing God's enemies that he h … [Read more...]

One hundred years ago today the dream of human progress died

The Victorian era was the time of great advance. Continual industrial revolution. Civilisation. As the 20th Century began, mankind was full of hope. The bold notion grew that the Human Spirit would itself evolve and leave behind its savage impulses. Then, one fateful day a war began so terrible that it was called the Great War, and touted as the war to end all wars. Europe, so long seen as the seedbed of democracy and civilization descended into barbarity. And just in Britain almost … [Read more...]

The heavens declare the glory of God. The sky above proclaims his handiwork

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. (Psalm 19)  … [Read more...]

You can visit Phil Moore Books or follow him on Twitter.WHY DOESN’T THE NEW TESTAMENT CONDEMN SLAVERY? “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.” (Ephesians 6:5) William Knibb, a British missionary to colonial Jamaica, wrote home: “The cursed blast … [Read more...]

Did Rosberg Cheat? What Hamilton and Formula One should do about it

I don't think I have ever written on here about my favourite sport: Formula One. But this weekend has left me a little disturbed. So far this year for those of us who had got bored of the domination of Red Bull, the success of Mercedes has been a blessed relief. Right now, most fans don't care that Mercedes are dominating even more than Red Bull did over the last few years, nor that they look like they may achieve the  most dominant season in the history of Formula One. Partly this is because it … [Read more...]
