Thoughts on Narnia

I have just one thing to say to conservative christians who criticise the Narnia film for teaching an alternative theory of the atonement -ITS A STORY, NOT A SEMINARY CLASSWe have watched it, and I didnt think about the nuances of the atonement once! The story is a great fantasy story which happens to reflect some aspects of the story of Jesus. One of my children (I think it was Charis) said it was the best film she had ever seen. We all loved the film and were enraptured by it.I have to … [Read more...]

Al Mohler gives Narnia the thumbs up!

Aslan Is On the Move on Film says Al:Like many admirers of Lewis' work, I harbored deep suspicions that the movie would not be faithful to the book. After all, the movie world has robbed and pillaged many of history's greatest works of literature. Furthermore, given the unmistakable Christian allusions in Lewis' work, The Chronicles of Narnia would be particularly susceptible to cinematic subversion. Those fears were unfounded. The film is a tour de force, combining faithfulness to Lewis' story … [Read more...]

Calling all Lion the witch and the wardrobe marketing people

I am already SO excited about the movie its unreal. Any Narnia marketeers out there, this blog is yours to do with as you choose if you just feed me some cool stuff. Halloween or Reformation Day?

Jollyblogger has a fantastic post reminding us that the 31st October is also Reformation Day:"But more importantly, the Reformation has a spiritual significance which transcends these lesser matters of life, like the affairs of nations. This is because the Reformation marked the recovery of the doctrine of justification by grace alone, through faith alone, because of Christ alone, to the glory of God alone. It marked the recovery of the gospel. While it is true that these things are taught … [Read more...]

The Toronto Blessing

Eleven years on from the birth of the Toronto Blessing I republished an article I wrote at the time. Some thought this was a time when the Church seemed to be going mad.UPDATEIn January 2008, the following post was identified as the 12th all-time most popular post with readers of this blog. The 13th most-read post was my post concerning Bishop Tom Wright's response to John Piper. The post below was republished from an article I wrote many years ago. In some ways it was this article that first … [Read more...]
