Adrian speaking on BBC London about Lent with Jumoke Fashola

This morning I had the pleasure of being a guest onBBC London 94.9 - Inspirit with Jumoke Fashola. We spoke about Lent, and one thing that was fascinating is her reaction on behalf of her listeners to the word "sin" We really do live in a world where such simple Christian comments are very controversial. You can listen to the interview right here: … [Read more...]

Why silence about controversies should not be read as agreement

Just in the past few days both my emails and Twitter stream have contained a few direct questions and challenges. I have had people gloatingly point out to me the story of the death of the latest snake handler to meet his inevitable death, demand my response to the Pope sending Kenneth Copeland a message promoting unity, and ask what I think of Steve Chalke's article about how he now approaches the Bible. In addition, I have also noticed that David Yonggi Cho has been found guilty of e … [Read more...]

Jesus the Great Evangelist: a sermon on John 4

Jesus is the model evangelist and we can learn from his example how to get caught up on his mission to seek and save the lost. This is a sermon about the Woman of Samaria in John 4. Brief sermon notes follow the audio.John 4:1-42We tend to think of Jesus as the Great Shepherd or Pastor, or as the Great Priest, as the Great Apostle of our faith, as the Great Teacher, as the Greatest Prophet of them all. But he was also the greatest evangelist.1. What do you live for?Jesus … [Read more...]

Ed Stetzer, Matt Chandler, and others on TBN

stetzertbn

This was one of the things I missed during January when I scaled back my social media commitments dramatically. Matt Chandler, Jefferson Bethke, Priscilla Shirer, Josh Wilsonm and Christ August, who are all solid evangelicals, appeared on special TBN's Praise the Lord program hosted by Ed Stetzer. The whole program faithfully proclaims the gospel of grace, and is very nicely produced. This video thrilled me. Too many of us in the circles I move in have made a sport of mocking all Christian … [Read more...]

A sermon on Psalm 2

This is a sermon I preached earlier this year at Jubilee Church Wood Greed. It is based on Micah 6:7 and Psalm 2.Here are some brief notes from the sermon. The rejection of the King The world hates us as it hates God. They see Christianity as boring and restrictive, and cast off the restraints. But God sets limits for our own good. So-called constraints are actually liberating. He has designed you, be content with what he has made you to be.The response of the King Jesus is … [Read more...]

20131216-151726.jpg

This week, I will be sharing some sermons that I preached earlier this year and didn't get round to posting on my blog.  I thought I would begin with a seasonal sermon that I preached just this morning at Jubilee Church's Wood Green site, The message was based on Luke 1:26-55.What is Christmas? -A happy time of year in the middle of the cold dark winter…celebrating with lights -A time where a lot of food is eaten A time where family comes together -A time where gifts are gi … [Read more...]

NEWLY RELEASED VIDEO – Joan Bakewell interviews Martyn Lloyd-Jones

This 20 minute interview with Martyn Lloyd-Jones is fascinating.  It took place in 1970 and he explains his view of the gospel, and the way modern society views mankind. You see a very clear disagreement between the protagonists, but there is grace, and smiles on both sides. The humanity of The Doctor comes across very clearly.  Already back then, "tolerance" was a key issue in the discussion.  I have quoted and discussed Martyn Lloyd-Jones many times before on this blog. … [Read more...]

You can change: True salvation

20130925-195048.jpg

The above video was preached by Tope Koleoso this past week at Jubilee Church in Enfield and Wood Green. It was one of the most convicting yet grace-filled messages I have ever heard. This is the gospel. It is a great sermon for everybody to listen to in order to help you to distinguish in your own life the difference between as he put it "Some kind of response to the gospel vs being born again."Tope referred to two Scriptures that should cause all of us to sit up and listen: Examine … [Read more...]

What does it mean to be a living sacrifice? Terry Virgo on Romans 12

Above is an excellent sermon that Terry Virgo preached at Jubilee Church this past Sunday. Audio is also available to download. If you haven't already I would urge you to follow him on Twitter, and read his book Spirit-Filled Church. Here are a few bullet-point notes I took listening. Many think that if you become religious you take on many duties, but Christianity is not about what we must do but what Jesus has already done! In view of the mercies of God a response is called for, … [Read more...]
