What is relational Christianity?

terrytopeqa2

When I was just four I became a part of a family of churches that was subsequently called Newfrontiers. Terry Virgo was the founder of that group. One of our rallying calls was a call to "relational Christianity." This call is as relevant now as it has ever been. A few days ago Terry posted a couple of tweets about this: You are welcome to church life shaped & formatted by business psychology and procedure. I prize brotherly love and comradeship always! — Terry Virgo (@TerryVirgo) May … [Read more...]

How to tell if you are an Evangelical or a Progressive Christian

Steve-Chalke

As you probably know by now, Steve Chalk's Oasis Trust has been expelled from the Evangelical Alliance. Despite this, Chalke has been insisting that he is still an evangelical.  There are two indisputable facts, as we look at the aftermath of this decision however: Firstly, one of only two umbrella organisations representing Evangelicals in the UK has decided that they feel Chalke is out of step with the majority of Evangelical leaders in the UK.  I don't believe for a moment, that the … [Read more...]

Steve Chalke’s Oasis Trust removed from Evangelical Alliance over the Bible and Homosexuality

Steve-Chalke

In a statement reproduced in full below along with Oasis' response, the Evangelical Alliance have today discontinued the membership of Oasis Trust, the organisation which Steve Chalke leads. For a number of years now,  Steve Chalke, who was once the UK's leading Evangelical figure has been drifting away from a typically Evangelical approach to the Bible. This began ten years ago when Steve Chalke rejected the traditional Evangelical view of what the cross accomplised as "cosmic child … [Read more...]

Are there apostles today?

John-MacArthur

I am nearing the end of my series on Strange Fire.  It may feel interminable for some, but believe me when I get the bit between my teeth, sometimes I keep at it a lot longer than I will have done on this! Today I turn to an argument that MacArthur uses against the charismatic movement. He takes some of the odd things some people say and do about the idea of apostles today and rightly rejects that. But again he fails to interact with more responsible groups who do believe in apostles today. … [Read more...]

Why cessationists are wrong about prophecy

20131016-093651.jpg

Later today the Strange Fire conference hosted by John MacArthur begins. A few weeks back I expressed my concern about some of the publicity for this event seeming to accuse all charismatics of being blasphemers. This event also prompted Terry Virgo to share a video about how Lloyd-Jones encouraged him as a young charismatic. I will be watching at least some of the event online. But one thing I am not expecting to hear is a novel or convincing argument from Scripture. I just want to state … [Read more...]

In appreciation of Arnold Bell

arnold-360x269

This is going to be a personal post, mostly of relevance to my Newfrontiers family. But I am sure many of my readers who only know of us through these posts will find in this a glimpse into the warm, relational, family on a mission that is the group of churches I have been a part of for more than 40 years. It is not good to serve our Lord alone. I am thankful to God that I am part of a community which spans the globe. Perhaps God is calling you to join us if you don't already have a similar … [Read more...]

Guest Post – Calling all Leaders

Calling All Leaders Written by Curt McCutchan Church leaders have an ongoing need for fresh inspiration in their active lives. As leaders we are constantly in need of renewed vision, training and equipping to lead others in new or better ways and rich times in God’s presence. Leaders also need good friendships that provide joy and strength to their hectic lives. It can be a challenge to find time and resources to get these accomplished. The Equipped For Mission (EFM) Leadership Conference … [Read more...]
