Out of the mouths of babes…

Life is so simple for a five year old boy. My son Henry quite seriously stated to me the other day that I was the strongest person in the whole world except for God.Wheter that has anything to do with the fact that I am the only one he is allowed to play fight (perhaps Dad is the only one strong enough to take his ever harder punches!)But I guess I am the protector to him, and he quite clearly still idolises me. It wont last long judging from his seven year old sister Tamasins reaction to … [Read more...]

Out of the mouths of babes….

Tamasin has been a realy cutey today. Andrée was playing piano and getting frustrated at how a particular aspect was difficult. Tamasin patted her on the shoulder and said 'Its such a shame mummy, you havent anyone here to help you with your piano- you help me but no one helps you.'Then this evening, I asked her to tell ME a bible story. She switched out the light and begun very seriously 'Once it was all dark. Then God was fed up. Because he didnt have anyone to talk to he decided to make … [Read more...]

The Lord of the Rings – Return of the King

Having allowed my whole family to watch the new Lord of the Rings film I asked Henry, What did you learn from the Lord of the rings?Henry's answer- 'Not to go out on my own'Well, I guess thats one function of letting kids see depictions of evil! Of course the other is to instill in them the age old story of the fight of good versus evil. Many seem to learn more expicitly Christian messages from the film, such as for example Nick: "Does Lord of the Rings reflect Christian values? I think … [Read more...]

An important day?

Although both Tamasin and Henry have both said sorry to Jesus for their sins before, tonight was slightly different. I asked Tamasin what you had to do to become a Christian. She answered that you had to thank Jesus for taking the blame for us, and say sorry to him for all your lies. I said that it wasn't just lies, but all naughty things, and she agreed. I then said you needed to ask Jesus to be the boss of your life- to be in charge. She said, but I haven't done that and immediately she … [Read more...]

Tamasin awaits….

One of the delightful things about children is their inability to wait. My 6 year old knows that Christmas is less than a month away and is thrilled. She also keeps asking me 'Did you win dad?' and can't seem to understand the delay in deciding who is going to be the king of blogs.I think she needs her own blog one day- but maybe I will make her a guest blogger here. Some of my most profound thoughts come from her or Henry anyway.Like this question 'Dad, why does this year seem to be going faster … [Read more...]

All you need is love….

All obedience begins in the affections, and nothing in religion is done right, that is not done there first. (Matthew Henry on Mt 22:39-40 - the greatest commandment)We are separated by some period of time from Matthew Henry I fear that we no longer understand what he meant by affection. You see love biblically is not simply a wishy washy feeling.Jonathon Edwards who was of the same era as Matthew Henry said of the affections that they were "the faculty by which the soul does not behold … [Read more...]
