Steve Chalke and others on Homosexuality and Gay Marriage

UPDATE: My recent interview with Sam Allberry, a conservative minister who also experiences same-sex attraction is worth a watch on this subject. I am increasingly convinced that how we choose to respond to this issue is the biggest challenge we will face in the next few years as churches in the West.I thought I would simply today catalogue some recent statements from various Christians about homosexuality. You will see that there is quite a spectrum of opinion represented here, as I have … [Read more...]

New Evangelical Archbishop of Canterbury – Justin Welby

Justin Welby

Today they have finally confirmed that the current Bishop of Durham, Justin Welby will become the next Archbishop of Canterbury, head of the Anglican church worldwide. My Church of England Evangelical friends are no doubt very pleased, but we must not underestimate the challenge Welby has ahead of him.The phrase "Bishop of Durham" still sends a chill down the spine of older evangelicals in the UK like me. One of the previous incumbents was infamous, and was so liberal he would not have been a … [Read more...]

The Christian Persecution Complex?

Over on Twitter I had a very interesting discussion yesterday with another blogger who has just moved over to Patheos. No doubt Jame's original question was probably prompted from a tweet that came from my introductory post here on Patheos. His blog is coming from a very different perspective to mine and is called Future Temple.  Here is what we said, oldest posts at the bottom, and as is often the case in these discussions some of our replies to each other get a bit jumbled, but I think you can … [Read more...]

Many of you will know Vaughn Roberts who I have previously interveiwed on my blog. Your authority ends at the bedroom door: Doug Wilson, Jared Wilson and Rachel Held Evans controversy

I never thought I would write this blog post. There are some internet controversies that I know immediately that I will jump feet first into. There are others that I really don't feel like getting myself involved with. This one is definitely firmly in that latter group. My head tells me that there is more to lose than gain by getting involved. Today there are few issues more likely to raise emotions among professing Christians than discussions about gender. It's not actually an issue that I feel … [Read more...]

Video sermon on the gospel by Matt Chandler

About ten days ago, Matt Chandler preached the following sermon at Jubilee Church in London.  In it he preaches the gospel, focusing in on the parable of the prodigal son from Luke's gospel.  Many readers will remember seeing Matt's "Jesus wants the battered rose" illustration. If you want to see that illustration in context this is a good video.  It is vital that Christian's expose themselves to clear gospel teaching often. This talk will make fresh for you the wonderful good news of Jesus' de … [Read more...]

The Effects of Pornography – EdStetzer.com

I do love it when a scientific study shows us what we all thought likely to be the case.  When will society take note that this massive market is degrading to women and men alike? # Pornography is addictive, and neuroscientists are beginning to map the biological substrate of this addiction.# Users tend to become desensitized to the type of pornorgraphy they use, become bored with it, and then seek more perverse forms of pornography.# Married men who are involved in pornography feel less … [Read more...]

What Would The Doctor Have Thought Of Sex Education?

The Doctor makes a strong point below, but I wonder if he might think differently in this society where our kids will learn about sex at school, and unless we are eternally vigilant, on TV. I do want my children to learn about these things form me and Andree, but at the same time I want to talk about it in a way that they are neither encouraged to sin, nor given the idea that sex is dirty and sinful. For more about sex and marriage, see Tope's recent sermon series which is ongoing. The Doctor's … [Read more...]

Here is an extract from an article on the subjectQ. Are couples in sexless marriages less happy than couples having sex?A. Generally, yes. There is a feedback relationship in most couples between happiness and having sex. Happy couples have more sex, and the more sex a couple has, the happier they report being. Vaughan Roberts on Sex from 1 Corinthians 7

Well, after sharing here my pastor Tope Koleoso’s talk on sex just recently, regular readers of my blog will think I am obsessed with this subject. Then again, I am a man! Vaughan began by saying that the first command in the Bible to Adam and Eve, loosely translated, was “Go and have sex.”He began by explaining Paul begins by quoting them and countering their opinion with his own. The Bible honors both singleness and marriage, and is not anti-sex.V2-9 Paul seems to be implying that everyone sing … [Read more...]
