TOAM07 – Seminar: Guy Miller and Julian Adams On Prophesying in Power

Here I am, sitting in a cinema next door to the conference center. Those of you who read regularly will realize that I'm feeling very at home, since the London church of which I'm a part also meets in a cinema. There is something about these venues that encourage you to shut out the world and close yourself in with God. I love the banked seating that enables you to see what is going on down below. That's another point — in an age when some churches elevate the role of the pastor too much, … [Read more...]

TOAM07 – Session 5: Rob Rufus on Faith and Healing

Here we are with session five, which is the second one I have attended. I already feel like I'm at home. I love conferences, and especially conferences with this worldwide family I'm so thrilled to be part of. These conferences have been a part of my life for several decades. I wish I could bring all of you, my dear readers, here. These notes aim to give you something of a feel for the event. But I'm not sure I can communicate it properly. There are some things that writing can't communicate. … [Read more...]

George Whitefield’s Final Resting Place and the Lewis Revival

Yesterday it was a delight to see my old friends, Ian and Megan Jukes, and their three lovely kids. If you want to see his burial place, it is at The Old South Church, Newburyport, Massachusetts. The Resurgence also posted a sermon by George Whitefield just recently.I have to say that this experience was one of the most … [Read more...]

Terry Virgo On Healings Driscoll and Theology

One of the temptations for us Reformed Charismatics is to just not talk about our experiences of the Spirit and the things we see. If we just don't talk about our charismatic experience it is much easier for us to fit in with our reformed brothers. At times I feel I am more interested in fitting in with my reformed brothers than my Arminian Charismatic brothers! I wonder even if I have many Arminian readers? If you are one, do let me know....Anyway, I am thrilled with Terry Virgo for not … [Read more...]

A Cessationist Healing?

This is a short excerpt from a quote on Challies Dot Com which Tim says is entirely consistent with a cessationist perspective. It sure doesn't sound like the cessationism I love to caricaturise!". . . My friend knelt down in the middle of a circle of elders. We anointed him with oil, laid lands on him, and began to pray. Since I had started the process, I was appointed to offer the closing prayer. As soon as we began to pray, I had an overwhelming sense that God was, at the moment, healing my … [Read more...]

Sam Storms Responds to Jimmy Draper on The Bible and Tongues

Sam Storms launched his blog only yesterday. On day two, he launches a broadside against Jimmy Draper's latest article about tongues. Sam Storms quite rightly believes that tongues were NEVER meant to be evangelistic . . . . This could get interesting in the comment section. I am keeping out of it this time! Sam is very persuasive in his article. … [Read more...]

Am I a Thrill Seeker?

Over on Pyromaniacs, the last three posts and their extensive comments sections have all been prompted by the differing reactions to the Piper piece on Hearing the Voice of God. This article by John Piper is certainly a piece that is well worth listening to, as well as reading. The following are the three resulting Pyro posts.Ecstasy Emotions? Sure. We got 'em . . . Voices in Our HeadsI have commented extensively over there on each of these posts, so I won’t repeat myself here. I thought it m … [Read more...]
