Blogging – Raising Issues for the Church to Think About

Tim Challies has started a series stemming from the seminar he lead at the Basics Conference last week in Cleveland. He has some interesting facts and insights into the medium of blogging and the world we know as the blogosphere. He starts off with these comments: "I . . .found that there was a lot that was worth saying when I looked deeper than the simple nuts and bolts of blogging. When I dug a little bit deeper and looked at the history, value and impact of blogging, I found all sorts of … [Read more...]

Highlights of Challies Seminar at the Basics Conference

Here are some key thoughts from the seminar Tim is giving at the Basics Conference, currently ongoing at Alistair Begg's church in Cleveland, Ohio. (HT Russell Smith)Tim begins his seminar by describing the way blogs communicate:Blogs are a more PERSONAL means of communication. The tone is informal and conversational, as opposed to books and magazines, which are more formal.Blogs are an INSTANT form of communication.Blogs are a TIME-STAMPED form of communication. They are organized by … [Read more...]

The Death of the Blogosphere?

Tim Sweetman has written a fascinating article which states that the rumors of the death of the blogosphere have been greatly exaggerated! There's a quote in the article that I gave him. … [Read more...]

Happy Birthdays to Me – My Birth, My Rebirth and My Blogiversary

Today is my 36th birthday. I really cannot say I am in my “early thirties” any more! Since this picture was taken a year ago, I have had yet another child! It is a real joy to have such a large and lovely family to spend my birthday with. Tomorrow is also an anniversary of a day that is very special to me. One Good Friday when I was a young child, my Father first explained the Gospel to me. I made a commitment to Christ based on a simple Gospel that definitely included elements of punishment … [Read more...]

BIBLE – Reflections of a Returning Blogger

As I return to blogging, I cannot help but think of a verse in Proverbs which haunts a chatterbox and prolific blogger like me. What implications does it have for us?  Does it mean we should write less and think more?  I suspect so! "When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent." (Proverbs 10:19) … [Read more...]

Comments, Links, Copyright Policy, and Searching the Christian Web

I thought that with the Wayne Grudem interview still fresh in my mind (and I still have a "highlights and personal reflections" post to write) I would take the time to do some housekeeping around here. These items seem like they fit together in a way. They could be considered as the "boring small print," but I intend to make this as jargon-free and hopefully as interesting as possible. I would also welcome comments about each of these issues as, after all, you, my readers, are affected by every … [Read more...]

PROVERBS – Are Bloggers Scoffers?

Last Sunday I posted the first in a series of posts I am planning which will be a collection of Proverbs by subject. Today I thought I would share with you proverbs about the scoffer. As Tope pointed out in his sermon (linked to in last week's post), the scoffer is one of two types of “fool” mentioned in Proverbs. A quick search of the Bible will reveal that there are few mentions of the scoffer outside of the book of Proverbs, and that, not surprisingly, all mentions are negative. That … [Read more...]

The Power of the Pen, the Blogger's Keyboard, and the Way I Write

As you can see, I've been adding a few pictures to my sidebar in an attempt to make it look less cluttered - sorry if you noticed the mess as I moved the furniture around in here! The pen has always been the tool of the writer. So, here is a picture of a pen in honor of the power that it has wielded for centuries. Words really do have power - Christians must believe that if they are to remain faithful to the Bible. Ours is the most book-friendly of all world religions, and it is no surprise to me … [Read more...]
