How reasonable are you? (Philippians 4:5 & Titus 3:1-3)

“Let your reasonableness be known to everyone.” ‭‭(Philippians‬ ‭4:5‬)Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, 2 to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. (Titus 3:1-3) Reasonableness. The same Greek word elsewhere translated gentleness. Surely also related to meekness. Not righteous indication. Not aggressive forcefulness. Not irritation. Not self a … [Read more...]

“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”(‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:12-13‬)READ more on this verse at Bible Gateway. Learn from my mentor Henry Tyler, a wise pastor now in glory

Strange Fire: Every biblical argument refuted – Part Three

The things I do for you, my reader. After finishing part two of this series in response to Strange Fire, I sat down to continue to hunt for more biblical arguments to refute. For page after page, instead I read salacious details about a string of scandals affecting mostly TV preachers. Most of these people I have never even listened to, and am only vaguely aware of. They really don't seem to be part of my corner of the charismatic movement. They don't speak at conferences I go to. Their books … [Read more...]

God’s promise of joy to all

In the next post I will share some verses for the depressed. But looking at what the Bible says about joy is surely a good place to start. I am convinced, to use a title of a sermon that I preached a while back, God wants you to be really happy.  The gospel is intended to produce joy in us.  This is not to deny the fact however that Christians can get depressed. We must hold in tension that God promises us joy, with the fact that we don't always fully receive it.  As I explained in another prior … [Read more...]
