Today I Feel Positively….

Today I Feel Positively…. January 13, 2015
Words have a strong effect on us. Words that people say to us, words that we say to ourselves – they all have an impact on our life, both positively and negatively. In fact Japanese scientist, Masaru Emoto, conducted an experiment on this same thing. Dr. Emoto poured pure water into vials labeled with negative phrases like “I hate you” or “fear” along with polluted water and added positive words like “love” and “peace” and froze them. After 24 hours, the water that had the negative words, put pure water, did not crystalize under the microscope and instead were gray and jagged clumps instead of beautiful lace-like crystals like the polluted water with the positive words. They gleamed and produced perfect and beautiful hexagonal crystals. So what does this say about all the words we take to heart?

Sunday night, as I was waiting for Downton Abbey to come on, I flipped over to the Golden Globes and caught Gina Rodriquez’s speech. “My father used to tell me to say every morning to say everyday that this going to be a great day, I can and I will. Well Dad, today’s a great day, I can and I did,” Rodriguez concluded, in her acceptance speech.

This upcoming year be careful using words like should, could, problem, maybe, if only, I wish…. Yesterday we had a rough day with everything breaking and Chuck in frustration yelled, “When it rains it pours!” This has always been an outlawed phrase in our house because it reinforces more of the same. So I grabbed a rose quartz and playfully smacked him in the head with it (not hard, mind you) and said, “Take it back and feel the love!” Oops…maybe that isn’t what crystals are supposed to be used for….? It made him laugh and he took it back.

Look at the words that you use in your typical/daily vocabulary, and change them to positive words that you speak and you write. You will find that your energy will shift. Words have power to them. They have energy. When we bad-talk ourselves, we give energy to it. Often times you aren’t even aware of how much you do this until you pay attention. When we good-talk, we give energy to that too. It takes a while to get in the habit, but once you do you will see the energy shift. Be the voice instead of listening to the echoes from the past!

I was feeling a bit blue the other day and took a spontaneous trip to the mall. Walking through JcPenney and I spotted a shirt with the words HAPPY embroidered on it. It wasn’t my typical style but I felt the need to buy it anyhow. When I got home I put it on and felt happy!

A fun way to help un-program the negative and program the positive is by choosing aPOSITIVE WORD to focus on for the year, or maybe choose a daily word. You can wear it (jewelry, shirt, etc), put it on a Post-It and post it in your car, on your computer, on your bathroom mirror or wherever it will be a reminder for you. It also helps to have someone around to help reinforce it. Just as when you diet you don’t want to be surrounded by temptation, the same goes for when you decide to make the shift to positive. If everyone around you is negative, you may begin to slip back to old habits, so seek support through friends, social media, blogs, books, etc. The more positive you put in your life, the more positive you will feel.
Have a POSITIVE new year!
