Please Join the Aidan Kelly Book Club: Help Me Get My Books Written

My previous post on Patreon, proposing a journal to be called Mythopoiesis, was putting the cart before the horse. I was thinking about a book club, then thought it should have a monthly newsletter, then thought I could put my poems in it, then thought I could put subscribers’ poems in it, then thought we could have some radical essays in it . . . and that just got out of hand. The point is to have a Book Club, dedicated to the proposition that I need money to live on in order to write f … [Read more...]

The Second Letter of Diana

This is a discrete unit from my ongoing Books of the Sacred Marriage. Should I post it at all? The universal plague we face cannot be combatted by politeness. As I have said, Witchcraft is, and must inherently be, an In Your Face religion. I know, of course, there will be many who, out of ignorance, will insist on misunderstanding and misinterpreting this fictive epistle. I don't care. The minority to whom it is addressed will understand it. 2. The Second Epistle of Diana I, Diana X, to the … [Read more...]

War Against Women: Empower the Victims

This train of thought was set off by Lasara Firefox’s moving tribute to the memory of her friend Shannon Williams, dead of a brain tumor in her 30s. (I remember being naked with Lasara and a whole lot of other people in a huge mudbath at a Church of All Worlds Sabbat about 25 years ago. Drool, you cowans.)I am heartened by the Swedes: they have decriminalized the selling of sex; have made buying sex a major crime; and are enabling women to get out of the sex business (or sex slavery) and f … [Read more...]

Reconnecting, Perhaps, with the Radical Left

Somehow Melinda got sent an invite to the Tacoma Free Skool's first organizing meeting. Since unschooling does not give our girls much social life, we went. Melinda also needed to report back to other homeschoolers on whether it looked like it might be a good resource. So, after looking at their first informational pamphlet, I said to a redhaired young woman, whose name turned out to be SAM, “I bet it would be dumb to ask who's in charge here.” She replied, “Well, yeah, we're sort of all in cha … [Read more...]

“I Fell in Love with a Witch”: The Vision of Gerald Gardner

Some people argue that Gardnerians cannot claim to have the right to do something merely because Gardner did it. Yes, the historical pattern is that religious founders always have rights and privileges that their followers cannot have. I see this clearly in the three cases I know best, those of Gardner, Joseph Smith, and the Rabbi Joshua (whose Greek name was Jesus).A religious founder cannot be bound by ordinary rules of behavior, else he could not do something so extraordinary as creating … [Read more...]

A Note on the Creating of Religion

I know Philip Heselton hoped to find (but did not assume that he would) evidence that Gerald Gardner's friends were practicing a rudimentary form of Gardnerian Craft in the 1930s. As he shows in Witchfather, he did not find any.He discovered quite a few people in Gardner's circle of occultist friends who may have had a coven of sorts in the late 1930s, and some of whom may have worked with or cooperated with Gerald and Edith in founding the first coven after the war, but what they most … [Read more...]

In the Name of the Goddess, I Say to You . . .

All saints revile her, and all sober men Ruled by the God Apollo's golden mean - In scorn of which I sailed to find her In distant regions likeliest to hold her Whom I desired above all things to know, Sister of the mirage and echo.It was a virtue not to stay, To go my headstrong and heroic way Seeking her out at the volcano's head, Among pack ice, or where the track had faded Beyond the cavern of the seven sleepers: Whose broad high brow was white as any leper's, Whose eyes were … [Read more...]

A Report on Life and Writing

I’m 73, and have been writing since about age ten. I live in Tacoma with my wife, Melinda, and our three children: Evan is 19; Chloe is 14; and Isibella will be 12 on June 28. Thanks to modern technology, I now have four books available for sale. I have always been fascinated by fragmentary information. In 1965 I created a suite of poems entitled “Aeolian Transformations” out of the fragments we have of Sappho. (I think it exciting that more fragments of her work have been found among the Oxy … [Read more...]

What If Witches Are the Genuine Christians? — Goddess Murder II

I had completed much more writing linked to my Goddess Murder project, and it was not obvious what to do with it. I experimented with doing a sequel or a prequel or . . . but the protagonist/narrator needed to rewrite his earlier effort in order to deal with new information he became privy to after the end of the events he described. So this revision is significantly longer and includes some very new materials, especially The Acts of Mary, which continues her history from Jesus’ death down to h … [Read more...]

Blindsided by a Rabbit, Again

Just finished Paulo Coelho’s Eleven Minutes. Every one of his books is like seeing through a tear in the fabric of reality, into another world, a world redeemed by enlightenment. Wish I could figure out how he does that. The best of all so far is his next novel, The Zahir. It cannot be explained or summarized or classified. You just have to read it.Eleven Minutes is classically and literally pornography. Not only is it, in part, about prostitution, but it is built on an autobiography of “ … [Read more...]
