My Gnostic, Heretical Books Are Available on Amazon

Being far more focused on completing the five (at least) current books I am working on, I rarely think about the boring mundane tasks of marketing and promotion, but since I have not recently put up even an announcement about my books, it has occurred to me that it might be salutary to does so, mainly because this morning my Higher Self seems to have taken over and relieved me of worry about the petty, vindictive landlord we are dealing with, reminding me that I have important work to finish … [Read more...]

Trekking Toward Nineveh, Mile One

I have finally, step by step, been forced to realize what I must do. Since I am 74, I must do it now. I have been thinking and learning about our universal madness for 60 years. How much time have I left to describe what might begin to combat it?I am not overjoyed at having to face this task. What comes to mind is the delightful short story of Jonah, which I will explicate by a paraphrase. The Lord says, “Jonah.”Jonah says, “Ah, speaking.”The Lord says, “Jonah, you will go to the p … [Read more...]

What If Witches Are the Genuine Christians? — Goddess Murder II

I had completed much more writing linked to my Goddess Murder project, and it was not obvious what to do with it. I experimented with doing a sequel or a prequel or . . . but the protagonist/narrator needed to rewrite his earlier effort in order to deal with new information he became privy to after the end of the events he described. So this revision is significantly longer and includes some very new materials, especially The Acts of Mary, which continues her history from Jesus’ death down to h … [Read more...]

About Writing Witchy History

It ain’t easy. Given that I began saving Green Egg and the other dozen  periodicals we got as exchange subscriptions for The Witches Trine, I began gathering materials for A Tapestry of Witches more than 40 years ago. About ten years later, I began compiling entries about covens and other groups that had announced their existence into a database program on my Apple II that Isaac set up for me; some of those entries still exist in the book now. In the early 90s, when I began the actual writing wo … [Read more...]

A Tapestry of Witches: A History of the Craft in America, Volume I is now available on Amazon

tapestryofwitches

I have released the first volume of the history for which I began gathering data about 30 years ago. It covers from 1893 up to the mid-1970s. There were Witches before Gardnerian Witchcraft was introduced to America by Raymond Buckland, and there still are. The relationship between these two varieties is still a matter for active discussion. The book contains several hundred footnotes, mostly documenting the Wiccan and Pagan periodicals from which I gleaned the data about the existence of … [Read more...]

Interpreting the “Gospel of Jesus’s Wife”

There have been many news stories (an excellent one can be found at theatlantic.com/international/archive/2014/04/the-gospel-of-jesuss-wife-is-real-what-now/360487/) reporting that disinterested scholars have established that the fragment of papyrus which Karen King labeled the “Gospel of Jesus’s Wife” is as old as the other Coptic documents published as the Nag Hammadi Library in English. It now can be taken seriously as an historical document. The only new element in it is the words “Jesus said … [Read more...]

Of Breasts (Redux) and the Foundations of Ethics

My previous blog elicited more negative than positive comments. Allowing for the fact that one commenter is a troll and will simply be ignored, most of the rest advanced serious objections that merit reply. Please be aware that my thoughts here are within a larger trajectory of wondering why almost all the modern world suffers from the scourge of Aphrodiphobia and what long-term strategy might work toward eradicating it.First of all, I was accused of not doing my homework, not having … [Read more...]

“Why are men so interested in women’s breasts?

They don’t really have anything to do with sex.”  Thus Mikel Schwartzkopf asked me and my best friend, Alan Rein, one day in the fall of 1956, our senior year at Tamalpais High in Mill Valley. Alan and I were both in love with her, but she was getting over a previous crush of her own and refused to choose between us. Unrequited love is SO painful when one is sixteen. He and I scratched our heads, discussed the issue, and realized we did not have a clue. Not long after, as we were returning fro … [Read more...]

Goddess Murder, 36: The Holy Apostle Mary Sings of Her Husband; Dante II

XL. The Holy Apostle Mary Sings of Her Husband [An excerpt from the Gaulish Chronicles as translated by S. Dugan and A. Verrazano] When I was young, I waited for him, not knowing when he would come, or even if he would come.I did not know what he would look like; I had forgotten his appearance after I left our Father’s house.I dreamed of him, knowing that I loved him.On my bed by night I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but found him not. Then he came to do his F … [Read more...]

The United States Has Always Been a Pagan, Socialist Nation, Part II

In Part One I presented an argument that the USA began as a socialist nation. There are already a few people screaming that we are NOT a Socialist nation. No, that’s not what I said. I explained that I was using “socialist” in the classic Enlightenment sense as meaning a society that is governed for the benefit of all its people, not for the benefit of any minority. Of course, at the moment we have drifted far from that ideal. And, BTW, not reading what has been written is what gets freshman an F … [Read more...]
