Monday Tarot: Knight of Wands

Every Monday I will do a quick one-card draw from one of my Tarot (or oracle) decks and interpret the card. This isn’t going to be ‘introduction to the Tarot’ or ‘intro to divination’ or anything like that, and my interpretations should not at all be seen as the only or correct way to read the cards. In fact, my interpretations will more focus on how the card is at play in my own life, how it is connected to the... Read more

Musings: Pride

Every Friday, in the ‘Musings’ series, we’ll be exploring in-depth or complex topics related to the Otherfaith and our gods. These will be wandering, wondering posts, and not presented in any expected order – they are entirely based on events or occurrences that happened during the week. This Friday, we’re focusing on the concept of pride in the Otherfaith. * My planner includes a variety of blocks, each sketching out when to study what, even when to eat – and... Read more

Basics: the Otherfaith

Every Wednesday, we’ll go over basic concepts and important practices in the Otherfaith. Join us every Wednesday to learn more about the gods and their religion. (Though I will do my best to present the Basics series in a logical order, they won’t be perfect. The Otherfaith is only four years old, after all, so we’re a little rough along the edges. If you have suggestions on how or what material should be presented, please speak up!) We’ve met the... Read more

Monday Tarot: Nine of Pentacles

Every Monday I will do a quick one-card draw from one of my Tarot (or oracle) decks and interpret the card. This isn’t going to be ‘introduction to the Tarot’ or ‘intro to divination’ or anything like that, and my interpretations should not at all be seen as the only or correct way to read the cards. In fact, my interpretations will more focus on how the card is at play in my own life, how it is connected to the... Read more

Musings: Purpose (?)

There were a lot of times last year when I asked myself, “What’s the point of this?” ‘This‘ being the Otherfaith, this religion, this type of life. I sat on the swing on our porch and agonized over this question. I asked myself why I didn’t just stop. I could continue on my own, worship on my own, stop writing, stop talking about it. The religion didn’t matter, I told myself as I sat on the swing, the sun setting... Read more

Basics: Four Gods (Redux)

[This post was meant to go up yesterday, but life and school got in the way.] I’m restarting my posts on the Otherfaith, and each Wednesday I’ll be posting basic information about the gods, spirits, daily practices, and other important bits of the faith. Every Friday (maybe this Saturday, if my word processor is still down) I’ll post more freeform musings on various topics concerning the Otherfaith. Other days are open for other rants, though I’m hoping to produce less... Read more

Monday Tarot: Seven of Pentacles

To start off  – please go check out this post by Beriani, “C is for Civic Paganism”. Stunning, heartfelt, amazing. The piece makes me want to return to Seattle, my City, and find the places that are my own, the places that claim me. Another note before delving into today’s post – I will be participating in Pagan Tea Time. I’m really excited to participate in this and already have a chat set up with someone. I would love to... Discernment (+ Others)

Discernment – the ability to judge well or, in religious contexts, understand spiritual progress – is vital to any thriving, stable religious community or practice. Without it, we can become lost, adrift, far from our gods, our spirits, and our people. We can lose ourselves. We can mistake our own voice for the voices of the gods. But we’ve seen discernment discussed often, and well, in Pagan and polytheist communities. I’ve written about it before and have a tag on... Read more

Briefly: Update

I made a goal to write mostly about the Otherfaith this year, instead of focusing on drama in the many Pagan communities I interact with. This has been tough (though I consider my last post a very important one, and I’ve touched on similar issues as they relate to the Otherfaith before), but this commitment to focusing on the faith has been good. I haven’t been able to write a lot of completed posts, but I have had more opportunities... Read more

A Challenge

Originally, this post was going to be a pretty short piece about anthropocentrism, delving into Otherness and understanding the gods as non-human. It’s a topic that people are already talking about – here and here. But what started as a short post grew into a bit of an unwiedly one, so I’ll be splitting up my thoughts into two posts concerning the topic. These will pretty much exclusively focus on the Other People’s approach to the issue, and I look... Read more
