Monday Tarot: the High Priestess

II the High Priestess (Stephanie Pui-Mun Law)

Every Monday I will do a quick one-card draw from one of my Tarot (or oracle) decks and interpret the card. This isn’t going to be ‘introduction to the Tarot’ or ‘intro to divination’ or anything like that, and my interpretations should not at all be seen as the only or correct way to read the cards. In fact, my interpretations will more focus on how the card is at play in my own life, how it is connected to the Otherfaith and our symbolism, or my impressions from the card. The way I read Tarot … [Read more...]

Sex, Pleasure, & the Sacred

tumblr_mo1gzbVYag1rya3cfo1_500

First off, I forgot two important links for yesterday's article. I'll be linking to a bunch of other articles as well. This post on John Beckett's blog is very much worth reading and I would suggest you go read it now. This post by Morpheus Ravenna is also good reading. Both of those touch on points I was making yesterday while also delving into other very relevant issues to modern polytheists.A post over on The Rose Bell caught my eye in the ways that I find similarities and differences, … [Read more...]

Naming

Today was an explosion of ideas for writing, but I decided to go with the first idea that struck me - thanks mostly to a post over on Aedicula Antinoi.Names and identifiers are a pretty big deal. While I've heard people high and low say that 'labels don't matter', I can't agree with that. Sure, breaking down barriers that labels and identifications can establish can be a good thing and create great, exciting, unexpected dialog - but what we call ourselves and what others call us is still … [Read more...]

Gender Mumblings (Again)

Though I usually see the Dierne as a white peacock, he also represents all gender variance and play possible.

I'm a bit biased against Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which isn't fair at all considering that many of my friends love it and I've never even seen the movie myself. The reason I twitch a little when I hear mention of it (and I have heard much mention of it the past week) is because it was first introduced to me because a friend refused to believe I was trans, and the movie showed that I had 'no idea what I was talking about'. I had no idea how the movie would make her think that, but it made me … [Read more...]

Menstruation Ain’t (Always) Female

Red_by_Ania_Riz

First, it is important for me to say that everyone relates to their bodies and their gender differently.  For some people, menstruation is going to be a totally female thing and they may want to associate with others who consider menstruation totally female. For others, menstruation is going to be totally female and also something they do not want happening to their body. It might be a non-issue for some other people. Second, there is going to be lots of talk of bleeding, menstruation cycles, … [Read more...]

But We Have a Queer!

tumblr_lub671FSd31r5kbalo1_500

This is one of the many issues that has been on my mind lately: the idea that you can 'prove' that there are not problems of heteronormativity, monosexism, and cisexism in the Pagan and polytheist communities because, "We have queers!" Any critical thought shows that for the poor argument it is, but I still see it time and again...and again...and again.Modern Pagandom has a pretty clear, obvious, and historical problem with dissent. Or, at least, dissent that isn't painted in a flowery, "I … [Read more...]
