I am watching on PBS. How about you?

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

TRYING TO GET THE LIVE-STREAM TO WORK WHILE STRANDED HERE AT THE DENVER AIRPORT!!!

    • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

Airpot internet is usually so slow. Good luck! Will you be getting out in time for tomorrow?

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

An astute former student noted the absence of Scalia and Alito before PBS did.

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

    Fox New.

    • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

Eric, I was thinking about you today! I bought two Rush CD’s on Saturday and a bunch of Rush songs came up on my play list today.

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

    Lucky.

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

    It’s working!

    • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

      Phew!

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

    Is the applause really necessary?

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

    “Partners in progress”; nice line.

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

I’m loving the graphs which the White House is putting up to accompany the SOTU address on its YouTube channel.

    • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

They are pandering to Ezra Klein with the graphs.

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

    Who you love? Subtle…

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

I am not getting much out of his medical care stuff.

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

That applause for the Simpson-Bowles plan was the weakest I’ve ever heard.

    • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

That is because they are all panderers to the special interest groups that who oppose it.

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

    Ah, the magic word: “loopholes”!

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

I think I like what he is saying about tax reform.

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

I agree that the “greatest nation on earth” really just can’t just wobble from one manufactured crisis to another, but I suspect that the USA could.

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

I like his attention to manufacturing, but not his ignoring the deficit.

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

Why not an appeal to humanities funding. I need some, too!

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

“Control our own energy future”? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

Global Warming! Election must be over…

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

Is China really the example of all-in clean energy? The stories I hear of pollution in China are pretty bad.

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

Lyndee and I bought solar desk lamps on Saturday. Pres. Obama is proud of me.

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

I have seen all those what??

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

Ah yes, those bipartisan market-based green energy sustainable job-creating planet-saving technologies! I think I put them over there in the closet, beside the unicorn.

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

Isn’t giving home loans to people who are not a good risk part of what brought things down?

    • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

There needs to be a balance between how we are doing it now and how we did it 10 years ago.

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

I doubt his stats on pre-school. Come on man.

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

Oh sure, let’s talk universally available pre-school instead of, oh, JOBS WITH FAMILY-SUPPORTING WAGES ATTACHED.

    • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

      He is getting there!

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

Not bad on some of the immigration stuff.

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

    Another college score card? Please.

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

I am afraid of global labor competition with an even higher minimum wage.

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

The collapse of responsible fatherhood, and its devastating economic consequences, amongst the lower middle- and lower-class deserves more moral authority–and more socio-economic assistance–than a couple of sentences. Still, at least he put it in.

    • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

I think I would prefer a whole speech on it rather than more bullet points.

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

    Global justice!

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

So we are going to be the world’s policeman and caregiver?

    • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/approachingjustice/ Chris Henrichsen

Maybe more leaders in the world.

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

He’s going to make sure his “targeting” of suspected terrorists will be even more “transparent.” Nice elision there, Mr. War Powers Act Abuser.

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

Hey, that was almost an embrace of the Arab Spring! Almost. Pretty close, though.

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

We are going to be able to vote now??

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

    here it comes…

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

    I want to vote no.

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

I bet she voted for Romney.

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

This is actually a really sneaky way to push restrictions on gun access without ever coming out in favor of restrictions on gun access: “Congress, they [the victims of gun violence] deserve a vote!” Push Congress to put themselves on the record, while not going on the record himself. Smooth, Mr. President, very smooth.

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

Thanks Chris. Any last words? I am going to bed soon.

  • http://www.smallsimple.wordpress.com Eric Nielson

Fox initially paints this as an activist government plan that ignores the debt. That matches my take as well.

  • the narrator

Missed the SOTU address because I was teaching, but I enjoyed the commentary. Now I need to watch the speech to find out what you were all talking about.
