That Place We Keep Meeting

The Network isn’t like a Natural Spirit! It’s not like Nature. It’s not like the birds or the trees or the dirt under my feet. It’s prickly and tingly and full of electric charges. I don’t want to talk to it like that! (I squirm in my seat, adjust my sweater around me as if that will make me feel more comfortable. It doesn’t.)

“What’s unnatural about the Network?” my mentor asks.

Amsterdam

Image of an Amsterdam canal From Wikipedia. Click for original.

As I sit here listening to the ragweed and grass whisper next to a canal, I know that this has all been seen before and will be seen again. It’s not exactly the same, because we aren’t on a circle, we’re in a spiral. We’re moving along the groove in the vinyl record, and if the cycles seem like they are getting closer, that might just be because we’re getting closer to the center of the record. I don’t know. The Housing Bubble

Not my house. Just a building near by that I like the look of.

When you visit a friend’s home, you can feel if you are welcome or not. You can tell, even if it’s another family member or housemate you never see directly, if someone doesn’t want you there. You also get a feel for the dynamics of the people who live in the space. How do they get along? How do they work together? How do they feel about this space, about their lives, and about each other? The Holt

Land's edge in Lincoln Park, San Francisco

Feeling Out of Place

Rainbow Over Glasgow

Last week I started to write a post, and then I abandoned it. It didn’t feel right. I couldn’t say what I wanted to say about my ambivalent relationship with technology, especially where it intersects with issues of Spirit. I dropped the post, half written and never completed it, thinking that I was only stuck [Read More...]

Different And The Same

NetherlandsFlight3

Over the past week I have been in Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Glasgow, Scotland; London, England; and now I am in Manchester, England. The rain has followed me everywhere. I can see by the news that each place has gotten sunny after I leave it, so the rain must be following me around like a lost [Read More...]

Clutha

Clyde, Clydeh, Clydhe, Cludha. The waters rise up, envelop you, take you down. Cold at first, oh so cold, but your core temperature drops, As he makes you his own. Warm now, in his embrace, you see for the first time, the history of this place. The visions play before your eyes, Scenes of battles, [Read More...]
