Morning glories doing what they do at 6.30am

I've been up since before sunrise. I actually like being awake at dawn. There is a chorus of birds that sing praises to the twilight and I love hearing them. My new baby girl slept from 9.30 or 10pm to 4.30am. She is an excellent baby! I nursed her in the wee hours of dawn and tried to go back to sleep. But then my son had a nightmare and crawled into bed with me.I realized how little we get to snuggle and have gentle touch with no agenda (not wrestling or while we're reading, or with the … [Read more...]

What I Do

By Dedda71, via Wikimedia Commons

[From a post last September. The entire post still holds.]Earlier in the week a friend on Facebook linked to a great blog post on a blog I’d never read before. The post is called The Keys to Success in Magic. It makes a great point, that most witches/magicians/sorcerers worth their salt don’t do magic most of the time. I’d say that’s true!Midway through the post the author has a ‘flow chart’ of his practice. If I had to make a chart, this would be pretty close. … [Read more...]

Happy Five Years Patheos!

By Sander van der Wel from Netherlands, via Wikimedia Commons.

Patheos is celebrating its 5th birthday. While A Witch's Ashram has only been here since December, I'd been writing for both Pagan Families and A Sense of Place for over a year prior to moving my personal blog to Patheos as well.If you look to the right side of the page, you can see what my top 5 posts are here. I'd like to highlight some other things I've written for my own 'top 5.'Since I'm on loose maternity leave, I've been posting some of my favorite posts from before my move to … [Read more...]

Everything at Once: An Anouncement

IMG_0941

Last week my husband and I purchased our first house. A modest, but cozy thing, with a huge garden and a chicken coop just waiting to help us raise food. The house is very much not what we thought we'd go for when we started looking for houses. I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but I suppose we both hoped for something a bit more..... presentable to certain upperwardly mobile eyes. By that, I mean, we wanted one of those beautifully redone craftsman homes that our town is known … [Read more...]

He is not here, He is risen!

I haven’t celebrated Easter in any meaningful way in a long time. I dislike pastels and cartoon bunnies and cheap chocolate, so the mainstream/commercial parts of this holiday don’t interest me at all. I don’t want to start that with my kids, either. There’s enough sugar and cartoon-y fun in our lives as it is.But I do love the resurrection story. Even though we are not a Christian household and even though Jesus is not my god, I love the power of the resurrection story. In a world … [Read more...]

On Finding My Yoga

By Sardaka, via Wikimedia Creative Commons.

[This piece was written in August of 2011. My son was 3 and my daughter was 6 months old. I've edited it in places, but much of it remains true to where I'm at now.]One of the things I love about yoga and Hinduism is that there is an ‘in’ for just about everyone. Are you a monotheist? There is point of entry. Are you a non-dualist? Try Advaita Vedanta. Do you see the God as male? Perhaps being a Vaishnava is for you. Do you see God as female? Say hello to Durga. Want to be less religious and … [Read more...]

Third Trimester Update

Me, 35 weeks pregnant. Photo courtesy of my 5 year old on my iphone.

Folks, I'm on the countdown to meeting Baby #3. I'm 35 weeks and starting to prepare for anything. My son was born at 34.5 weeks, my daughter at 38 weeks. On top of waiting for Baby, my family is getting ready to move house next weekend. It's all more than a little stressful, especially since we're planning on a home birth. There is so much to get organized so that I will feel comfortable birthing!I am preparing by working on being adaptable and letting go of frustrations as soon as I can. I … [Read more...]
