Happy Five Years Patheos!

By Sander van der Wel from Netherlands, via Wikimedia Commons.

Patheos is celebrating its 5th birthday. While A Witch's Ashram has only been here since December, I'd been writing for both Pagan Families and A Sense of Place for over a year prior to moving my personal blog to Patheos as well.If you look to the right side of the page, you can see what my top 5 posts are here. I'd like to highlight some other things I've written for my own 'top 5.'Since I'm on loose maternity leave, I've been posting some of my favorite posts from before my move to … [Read more...]

We Interrupt Your Regularly Scheduled Programming…

Friends, readers, I am taking this week off. I'm sure you've noticed as it's already Thursday! I've half-written two posts for this week, but I'm having trouble focusing. Why? It's not for lack of ideas or inspiration! It's because on top of all the other things I do (parenting, writing, householding and so on) my husband and I are buying a house! We found a good one last weekend and we set all the gears in motion! It's exciting, but as first time home owners, the learning curve is steep. My … [Read more...]

Maxim Monday: Praise Hope

The sun rises, even in winter in Alaska. By ra64 from nome, usa (sunrise 12:45pm 12/22/06) via Wikimedia Commons

Expectation, desire, wishes, ambition - these are words associated with hope (so Google tells me). As with most things, these words can express extremes. They can conjure up a fantasy world disconnected with the harsh realities of life, the worst of 'magical thinking.' Or they can be expressions of a positive attitude, high expectations, and the best of magical thinking. This ancient oracle encourages us to praise hope, so let's look to the second, more positive take on this word. I'm an … [Read more...]

Holiday Gift Guide for the Mystic

yantra

It's full on holiday shopping time. But what do you buy the mystic in your life? What do you get for the witch that has everything? Let me help you! This is my first ever gift guide. I typically don't want to encourage the commodification of sacred holidays, but who doesn't like pretty things? And who doesn't want to support independent artists and other small businesses? So without further ado here are things that I would love - I mean, that the spiritual person in your life might love. … [Read more...]

Sharing the Love

Earlier this week I was nominated for a Liebster Award by a reader. Basically this is a like a chain-letter blog love fest. A reader with her own blog included me in a list of blogs she really loves. Thank you!!I'm not going to follow all the rules (because that's not my style), but I thought I'd answer the questions my fellow blogger posed on her post and then recommend a few blogs myself. What is your favorite quote/proverb? I don't have one. Really.Do you prefer incense or candles … [Read more...]

Mercurial

I don't know a lot about astrology. Most of the time I don't find it scientific or accurately reflecting my experience. Occasionally, it is eerily precise.Today Mercury goes retrograde for three weeks. I'd like to blame this starry shift on the mess I made with a friend on Monday. I am a strong and confident communicator in many mediums. I'm even pretty good at public speaking! But throw in volatile emotions and I can turn defensive, terse, and sometimes mean. I definitely have a few things … [Read more...]

Sweet Vacation

Today I am leaving on vacation. I am going to Canada. Without my family. It's been nearly a year since I did something longer than 4 hours without them. I am ready to recharge my batteries.I'm headed to the Gathering For Life On Earth. Pretty cheesy name, but so far, I've found the people on the FB group friendly and the list of activities enticing. Plus, it's only an hour or so outside of Vancouver, BC, so it is guaranteed to be beautiful. It's been a decade since I've been to Canada. I … [Read more...]
