Morning Practice

Every morning I escape from the family routine of breakfast, showers, dishes, getting dressed, stop hitting your sister, and escape into my back room to sit. I used to get up before the kids and do this, but my son typically is wide awake at 6.30 ready to snuggle and be read to. Getting up at 5.30 would be wise, but just isn't going to happen, if I'm being honest.Sitting in my bathrobe (sometimes I'm dressed first, not usually) I light the candles and the incense, waving it in front of … [Read more...]

Control Anger

It's Maxim Monday! And today's is: control anger. On the surface, I think, yes, we absolutely need to control our anger. I'm raising small children. How many times a day can I say the following? Keep your hands to yourself. Use your words. How are you feeling? We don't hit people. If you hit anybody in any way with that, I will take it away for the rest of the day. Please be in control of all your parts. You may not call me names. All of that is great advice for big or little people. We … [Read more...]

Fire

I'm done with all of my summer traveling. I'm recovering physically (had a stomach bug to contend with), emotionally (relationships to heal), and mentally (oh wow, look at that list of things to attend to). It's been hot here too, and we don't have air conditioning. As I wind down and get centered again, the image that keeps coming to me is the Tower.I feel like I'm on fire. Everything is in flames. Do you feel it, too? It's more than just the incredible heatwave that the US has been … [Read more...]

Shout outs

I would like to draw your attention to two things that I am loosely involved with and enjoy supporting. The first is an ebook, Birth on the Labyrinth Path, by my friend Sarah Whedon. She is the founder and maintainer of Pagan Families, a website with resources and articles that specifically focuses on the Pagan experience of parenting. So far the site has been written primarily from the mother's point of view, so if you're a father and want to contribute, please contact Sarah!Pagan … [Read more...]

Full moons, tarot, and the transit of Venus

It's an astrological bonanza right now. I don't know much about astrology, and I tend to be rather agnostic about it. As in most things, if I find some truth, or my experience lines up, I'll take it; if not, I won't. For example, I find that full moons make me buzz and jittery, and my head often gets scattered. Whereas the dark moon draws me inward, helps me feel focused, but even more like a homebody than usual. This seems to match up with people I've known who work in law enforcement, mental … [Read more...]

A cute take on a timeless tradition

Today is World Tarot Day! I want to share with you something that has been absorbing my attention lately: my husband's tarot kickstarter campaign! We both love tarot, but have different tastes in the art (mostly) and we seem to use the decks differently. He is much more interested in the history and evolution of the deck and symbols than I am, whereas I use my deck/s nearly everyday. For the last year and half, Adam, the husband, has been designing his own deck, The Chibi Tarot. According … [Read more...]

Magic for a dark night

24 hours of magic. That was my weekend. It started with a Feri gathering in Seattle on Saturday evening. We did some mediation and chanting about Godsoul. There are no coincidences, and I was only mildly surprised that the chants overlapped with some work that I've been doing in relation to some non-blogged about stuff. I've woven those words in with my daily practice and that dovetailed nicely into the work with the group. These days everything - everything - is about soul alignment. … [Read more...]
