Mormon Prayers & Catholic Cathedrals: Ages Four & Up

Mormon Prayers & Catholic Cathedrals: Ages Four & Up October 1, 2015

Religious bilingualism is a critically important skill to navigate in religiously diverse landscapes. For example, it is the practiced ability of a Mormon to speak to a Catholic employing the distinct religious language of Catholicism. A simple illustration might be a general knowledge and understanding of the import of Papal Bulls. Conversely, it is the practiced ability of a Catholic to speak to a Mormon employing the distinct religious language of Mormonism. A simple example might include a general knowledge and understanding of the import of Temples to Latter-day Saints. Furthermore, religious bilingualism is usually a sign of sincere interest to understand and show respect for other faiths and the adherents of those faiths. It is civil and usually stems human tendencies to categorize peoples of different faiths as perpetually “other.”

With this in mind, read the following article entitled “Prayers and Cathedrals” that appeared in the November 2014 issue of the LDS publication entitled The Friend: A Children’s Magazine. That’s right, this very fine introduction to a Mormon’s development of religious bilingualism with Catholics is written for small children. Nevertheless, it may be profitably read by Mormons of all ages. Enjoy, and perhaps even share with those around you. It is excellent.
