Some Revised Calvinistic Parables..

parables

What man of you, having no sheep, does not leave his home and go after a sheep that has never been in his possession?  And when he has found a sheep that has also been looking for him, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.  And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying:  “Rejoice with me, for this sheep and I have found one another!”  Or what woman, possessing no silver coins, if she desires some money, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and … [Read more...]

Are You Embarrassed?

embarrassed

For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. – Mark 8:38   That above statement of Jesus is one of my life verses (yeah, I’ve got life verses). It has both increased my boldness to be public about my convictions and also changed the way I interpret thorny issues.  Christ is saying, just after Peter confesses Him as Messiah and … [Read more...]

Spitting into the Sky

spit

At the end of C S Lewis’ Til We Have Faces there is this amazing scene. The protagonist, Orual, at the end of her life comes to face the gods. She has long had complaints against them for how they run their universe and the circumstances she has endured. She comes with her case against them – a large book – but arriving finds only a small scrap of paper scribbled with accusations. She reads her complaints to them again and again but they do not respond. In the end it is her complaint … [Read more...]

Our Unlawful Government

ourunlawfulgovernment

The United States of America was founded upon religious ideals. From the beginning when congress would gather they would first open every meeting in prayer, seeking wisdom and guidance from God above. 12 out of the 13 states had a tax created for the growth of churches and the preaching of the gospel. The American law was founded upon God’s law, the same law that is imprinted on our hearts and the same law that is the only absolute declaration of what is right and wrong in all of human … [Read more...]

Can’t seem to break that one sin?

Ambrose (340-397) writes: Often we hear talk about fleeing from this world, and I wish that the mind were as careful and circumspect as talk is easy! But, what is worse, the allurement of earthly lusts frequently creeps in, and influx of vanities takes over the mind, so that what you endeavour to avoid, you think about and turn over in your mind. It is difficult for a man to guard against this, but impossible for him to get rid of it. Indeed, in this matter the wish exceeds the accomplishment, … [Read more...]

The Death Of New Calvinism

deathofcalvinism

I would be considered to be apart of this "New Calvinism"(The Gospel Coalition, Desiring God, etc.). I wasn't raised in a Reformed church, in fact the church is probably the furthest (well not quite) away from the Reformers. The Reformers put to death the type of people (Anabaptists) that formed the kind of church that I attended. Anyways, I first came in contact with the theological framework called Calvinism from a YouTube video that I watched over 3 years ago. I'm clearly not a veteran in the … [Read more...]

“Where do you see yourself in 3 years?”

timing

I work in a coffee shop. My job title is "new media specialist". What do I do? To name a few things, I build websites, create graphics and develop multimedia presentations. I really enjoy what I do, I get to work with several different companies and ministries. One of the benefits of working in a coffee shop, besides the quick access to coffee, is that I meet some fascinating people. I also hear some interesting conversations, in particular over the past few weeks a restaurant that is opening up … [Read more...]

Grumpy Old John MacArthur

macarthur

Last week I posted two videos from John MacArthur. To give you a brief summary of the videos in case you didn't watch them or need a quick update: -Young guys are adopting a Calvinistic view of soteriology while being Arminian everywhere else. -These young guys are being pulled in by the world, music, R-Rated movies, etc. -These young guys probably don't have a biblical view of sanctification, and MacArthur "knows" they don't have a biblical understanding of the church -Powerful … [Read more...]

The Calvinist and Arminian that went to Hell

hell

This post is a continuation from something I wrote earlier this week that can be found here (Arminians, Not Pagans). The reactions to my last post varied, for some it was a helpful correction and for others it was condescending. To clear some things up, the post was intended for Calvinists, not necessarily Arminians, although I did expect some to read it. This post like the first, is intended for Calvinists, although I expect Arminians to read it as well. There was some very disturbing … [Read more...]

Interview – Why Megan and Grace Phelps left Westboro Baptist Church

DavidGraceMegan620

The following is an interview CBC's Jian Ghomeshi did with Megan and Grace Phelps-Roper and David Abitbol. If you have followed this story at all, I would encourage you to listen to this interview. I found it very moving at times as you can hear the heart of Megan and Grace come through as they speak. Doctrine matters. What we say online matters. Megan started questioning the doctrines of Westboro Baptist from a conversation on Twitter. Let this be a reminder to all of us when we are … [Read more...]
