Hail to the Chiefs – Malia and Sasha Obama

Is anyone really surprised by the fact that President Obama came out of the closet for gay marriage? What was most surprising is when he explained how his position (supposedly) “evolved,” by talking to his wife and daughters:

It’s interesting, some of this is also generational,” the president continued. “You know when I go to college campuses, sometimes I talk to college Republicans who think that I have terrible policies on the economy, on foreign policy, but are very clear that when it comes to same-sex equality or, you know, sexual orientation, that they believe in equality. They are much more comfortable with it. You know, Malia and Sasha, they have friends whose parents are same-sex couples. There have been times where Michelle and I have been sitting around the dinner table and we’re talking about their friends and their parents and Malia and Sasha, it wouldn’t dawn on them that somehow their friends’ parents would be treated differently. It doesn’t make sense to them and, frankly, that’s the kind of thing that prompts a change in perspective.”

Let’s pause for just one second.  When Christian women run for high office, people inevitably bring up the question of submission.  Once, Michele Bachmann, for example, was asked during a debate, “As president, would you be submissive to your husband?”

People automatically assume that a Christian female President isn’t capable of making decisions without her spouse’s stamp of approval.  (I should add female Republican candidates –liberal women don’t get the same kind of questions.)

So are all those reporters who feared excessive family intervention in the White House all up in arms over the President’s announcement yesterday?  Um.  Not quite.

Liberals  everywhere are applauding him for his bravery and his wisdom.

So let me get this straight – it’s a problem if my mom listened too much to my dad, but it’s a heroic act if the President made a massive change in a policy position that could affect the entire nation after consulting with his teenage daughters?

While it’s great to listen to your kids’ ideas, there’s also a time when dads simply need to be dads.  In this case, it would’ve been helpful for him to explain to Malia and Sasha that while her friends parents are no doubt lovely people, that’s not a reason to change thousands of years of thinking about marriage.  Or that – as great as her friends may be – we know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home.  Ideally, fathers help shape their kids’ worldview.

In this situation, it was the other way around.  I guess we can be glad that Malia and Sasha aren’t younger, or perhaps today’s press conference might have been about appointing Dora the Explorer as Attorney General because of her success in stopping Swiper the Fox.

Sometimes dads should lead their family in the right ways of thinking.  In this case, it would’ve been nice if the President would’ve been an actual leader and helped shape their thoughts instead of merely reflecting what many teenagers think after one too many episodes of Glee.

why would anyone care what Bristol Palin thinks about anything in this world. She can’t even master running her own life and is continually trying to extend her 15 minutes of infamy. anyone who wants to refer to Christianity should remember, the Bible has been used to supress people of color, and women. People who want to refer to the Bible regarding homosexuality should remember that Leviticus was written for the Levites, the priests..it was their directive..ALSO in those same passages you are condemned if you wear clothes of mixed threads (anyone got on a wool blend), if you eat shell fish, if you eat any animal with cloved hooves (that’s you, all you pig (filthy swine) eating hypcrites. Bristol Palin, not one of the Palins will ever be equal to Barack Obama and that is what makes them angry.

Agreed . what a self righteous bitch. if you open look closely into her lifestyle shes nothing but a slut

Since Jesus was born, died and rose from the dead, we live by New Testament guidelines rather than the Old Testament rules, so the argument you offer doesn’t apply today. The Old Testament does support and shine a light on what the New Testament says about homosexuality – reference Romans 1:26–27, 1 Corinthians 6:9–10, and 1 Timothy 1:9–10. It’s not mentioned as many times as money, faith, or Jesus as Saviour, but I’m not sure the number of times mentioned is the criteria for Scripture to be accurate. I’m not angry with Obama, the Palins or with homosexuals, but I believe we are making a mistake when we ignore God’s Word. I would choose the Bible any day over the feel-good, anything-goes mindset of our world today – and if that makes me a hypocrite, so be it.

Hey Bristol, we ignore thousands of years of marriage tradition because up until about 150 years ago getting married meant that a woman was property just like the furniture or the cows. So as a society, we evolved. Its hard to accept your conservative talking points about the role of Dads and marriage when they apparently don’t apply to your own situation.

Bristol is fine if she is a piece of property as long as it is what her mother believes. Dead on btw.

What a scumbag to attack the mans children. What kind of mother attacks a child for the decision of the parent? Oh yea. Backwoods pregnant daddy gone mom Bristol Palin. Low life Ms. Palin you are a lowlife. Your existence is a testament to bad mothering.

Well, considering the generational differences between Obama and his daughters, it was an excellent idea to listen to them. Do you realize how many politicians are influenced by younger populations? And why not – their opinion counts an obscene amount.
On top of that, you sound like a goddamn idiot for basically saying that older people can’t learn anything from someone younger. You’d be smart to listen to some people younger than you, because you’re obviously lacking some common sense that clearly people younger than you have managed to gain quite well.

I voted for Senator McCain and her mother, but I just find this appalling. I found some flaw in what she was saying. First off, he wasn’t “consulting” with his daughters. They were talking about their friends gay parents and that showed him how times have changed and kids of this generation don’t care if someone is gay or straight. In the next 20 years, we WILL see the legalization of gay marriage. If you’re not gay, and not marrying someone of the same sex, why do you care so much? And as someone who DEFIED the bible and had a child out of wedlock, she should be the last one to criticize someone for not following what the bible says.

    Bristol,
When your “Baby-Daddy” is in place, let us know. Just because your family was miscast into the public eye that does not make you smart or an expert of any kind. You are the type of person who makes mistakes and never takes responsibility but blames others. If you were so fabulous the vast percentage of the world’s population wouldn’t dismiss you…take the hint and crawl back under that Alaskan log.

  • moorenorth

so who broke the contract she abstractly speaks of? are their legal repercussions? does it involve her grandpa and great aunt? that is the word in wasilla. heard too they stalked whoever they ” perceived ” as a threat when in Alaska. These are a strange breed of cat folks, let me tell you…Todd did some dirty deeds when Sarah was in office, and Todd cut the cord of a belt for the Commish of Revenue…not is all what it seems with these cats!Check the Alaska papers and blogs…Alaskans got burned really bad by this triage of trolls…class action lawsuit!Office of Special Counsel – Parnell is trying to shlickem with adding and changing laws…cook the books Sean! Or should I say ” drown” them in water…clever…but not clever enough!

I’m so very not interested in marrying someone of my own sex…but I am not about to support legalizing discrimination for those that are gay or lesbian. What all this conservative crap about same sex marriage amounts to is discrimination..plain and simple. And if you support banning same sex marriage, you are guilty of discrimination and that’s contrary to everything the United States is supposed to be about.

And what, pray tell me, did HER parents do wrong? Bristol should have put an aspirin between her knees, instead of a Levi Johnston. I hope The President and First Lady didn’t let their daughters see Bristol shaking her money maker, on DWTS. Stop playing on the Internet and get a real job, Bristol.

  • Just Saying

Bristol, you should not have been judged for having a child out of wedlock. I admired your bravery to stand up to all who did judge you to say that you consider your actions a mistake and that you have learned a lesson as a young mother. It is no ones right to tell you what course your life should take. You bring great shame to so many youth that idolize you by judging what others want to do with their lives. I only hope that you begin to mature and learn that your way of life may not be the right way of life for everyone.
