Hail to the Chiefs – Malia and Sasha Obama

Is anyone really surprised by the fact that President Obama came out of the closet for gay marriage? What was most surprising is when he explained how his position (supposedly) “evolved,” by talking to his wife and daughters:

It’s interesting, some of this is also generational,” the president continued. “You know when I go to college campuses, sometimes I talk to college Republicans who think that I have terrible policies on the economy, on foreign policy, but are very clear that when it comes to same-sex equality or, you know, sexual orientation, that they believe in equality. They are much more comfortable with it. You know, Malia and Sasha, they have friends whose parents are same-sex couples. There have been times where Michelle and I have been sitting around the dinner table and we’re talking about their friends and their parents and Malia and Sasha, it wouldn’t dawn on them that somehow their friends’ parents would be treated differently. It doesn’t make sense to them and, frankly, that’s the kind of thing that prompts a change in perspective.”

Let’s pause for just one second.  When Christian women run for high office, people inevitably bring up the question of submission.  Once, Michele Bachmann, for example, was asked during a debate, “As president, would you be submissive to your husband?”

People automatically assume that a Christian female President isn’t capable of making decisions without her spouse’s stamp of approval.  (I should add female Republican candidates –liberal women don’t get the same kind of questions.)

So are all those reporters who feared excessive family intervention in the White House all up in arms over the President’s announcement yesterday?  Um.  Not quite.

Liberals  everywhere are applauding him for his bravery and his wisdom.

So let me get this straight – it’s a problem if my mom listened too much to my dad, but it’s a heroic act if the President made a massive change in a policy position that could affect the entire nation after consulting with his teenage daughters?

While it’s great to listen to your kids’ ideas, there’s also a time when dads simply need to be dads.  In this case, it would’ve been helpful for him to explain to Malia and Sasha that while her friends parents are no doubt lovely people, that’s not a reason to change thousands of years of thinking about marriage.  Or that – as great as her friends may be – we know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home.  Ideally, fathers help shape their kids’ worldview.

In this situation, it was the other way around.  I guess we can be glad that Malia and Sasha aren’t younger, or perhaps today’s press conference might have been about appointing Dora the Explorer as Attorney General because of her success in stopping Swiper the Fox.

Sometimes dads should lead their family in the right ways of thinking.  In this case, it would’ve been nice if the President would’ve been an actual leader and helped shape their thoughts instead of merely reflecting what many teenagers think after one too many episodes of Glee.

She has a right to disagree and to say it in writing. It is just odd that when it comes to this subject, tolerance is always promted. However, others have lost their right to disagree with this lifestyle. America is in a sad place. be encouraged Bristol!!

No one here is rejecting her right to speak. But just as she has the right to speak her mind, we have the right to mock her for being an uninformed hypocrite. Nothing she has stated has any scientific proof, and is based on how she feels.

And yes, how dare people not tolerate intolerance! I would say America is a sad place where calling out idiotic hypocrisy is a bad thing.

Too bad your dad did not shape your thoughts very well. Or may he did and that is your problem.

Your foundation for thoughts is wrong, and then your thoughts for your wrong foundation are wrong. You are wrong on so many levels, it would be hard to know where to start.

Let’s look at an early sentence: “When Christian women run for high office, people inevitably bring up the question of submission. ” Where did you get this idea? If it’s because of Michelle Bachman, then please read the news of why this came up.

I will stop here because it would take a couple of days to address all of your misstatements. You need to go to school.

If people didn’t “change thousands of years of thinking” then you would be considered a whore for having a baby out of wedlock and there wouldn’t be a black president in office. It’s 2012, and marraige is about love! Your backward thinking is ignorance and you should shut your mouth. :)

    Bristol hunny,
If those bible traditions were still followed, you would have been stoned to death in the town square, or made to wear the scarlet letter.

I’m sorry, but what makes you think you’re qualified to criticize the Harvard educated leader of your nation? You appear to be much less intelligent than he is, so what gives you the right to say a damn thing about what he does? You’re just homophobic and need a slap in the face…

    • Lissa

Slap in the face??? Is this the “New Tone” that the supposedly Harvard educated community organizer of the United States (COOTUS) called for? (Supposedly, since we have not seen any transcripts or records from Harvard, no proof that he actually attended any classes – except for Derrick Bell’s. Did he attend on a foreign student scholarship? Was it an Affirmative Action admission?)

Francine, what makes you think you are qualified to criticize Bristol Palin? You appear to be much less intelligent than she does, so what gives you the right to say a damn thing about what she does? You’re just an intolerant bigot and need a big clue in your face.

I remember the parents of a gay man in 1986, who were shocked when they learned their son was gay then ended up saying “I am proud my son is gay”.

After George Bush Jr. , Barack is a refreshment for the world, with his good English, rhetoric, vocabulary, general knowledge. I remember his answer to a group of chosen turkish students on armenian genocide. They chose not to pursue the debate.

At first I was slightly disgusted that yet again you were in the news. Then I got more upset as I read what for. But then again…a Republican and Sarah’s daughter to boot…why would it be surprising that you would take a swipe at Barack Obama? Nevermind that you didn’t really have all the right facts and probably spoke (or wrote) without really thinking it through…you know, with how studies show that upstanding children are raised only in families with mommies and daddies (apparently not in single parent homes). Recent studies actually DO show that healthy well rounded children are raised in homosexual households. I suggest READING and RESEARCHING before flapping your gums. And why can’t a man possibly be shown the “error of his ways” by his innocent children? Hatred, prejudice and discrimination are TAUGHT and is not something that already exists in an infant. Why do you have to be such a “mean girl”, Bristol? Don’t you ever get tired?

    • Lissa

Mean? Quote the exact statement that you believe is “mean” and back up your assertions of the truth. Can you? Will you?

  • I need a life…

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if this society had any idea of what the word “respect” means… we’d all go a looooong way.

  • A K

Yeah, and just because Pythagoras and a bunch of people proved that the world is round..” that’s not a reason to change thousands of years of thinking” that the world is flat.

Dumb as a board.. Like mom like daughter…
