On Second Thought: Episode 11 – Grin and “Bear” It

Trust me, it’s crazy to see your life on television. That’s why every week, I’m going to do a blog posts called “On Second Thought.” These posts are where I will go over the episodes of my Lifetime show as I process the issues presented now that I’ve seen them aired.  I hope you’ll join me for these weekly posts – which will undoubtedly be part-confession, part-explanation, and part-celebration of my life right now!

Episode Eleven, Air Date: July 24, 2012

I miss my sister when she’s not living in the same city.  Because we’re four years apart so we’re either best friends or worst enemies depending on the day! Willow went to Arizona to hair school, and I’m proud of her for pursuing her dreams.  But I missed her and – finally — Gino, Tripp, and I packed up and went south for a visit.

Also, this blog made its Lifetime debut!  Many of you awesome readers have been here from my very first post.  I so appreciate having a place like this to share my life with you guys.  Thanks for sticking with me all the way.  (If you want to be a super-reader, please subscribe by clicking here.  I can have each post sent to you by e-mail!)  If you’re a long time reader, you know that normally this blog consists of my thoughts about faith and family, and sometimes politics. Once or twice, I’ve written posts that caught fire.  As this episode was filming, we were dealing with the aftermath of this post in which I questioned President Obama’s decision-making process regarding gay marriage. Which, you might remember, was quite strong.

However, that’s the good thing about America.  We have the right to speak out.  In fact, if we love our country, we should.

In this episode, Willow asked if Gino lives with me.  However, Gino and I decided long ago that living together before marriage is not the right thing to do.

Things I learned during this episode: Willow doesn’t have a high tolerance for pain.  (She was scaring me when she went first on the Cool Sculpting!)  Also, I don’t think she really wanted a bear in her apartment!!

Oh, and one more thing I learned.  Bull riding is scarier than I thought it would be.  That was a long few seconds, but I was proud of Gino for doing so well.

    who cares?

    • hrh

      You crack me up.

Obviously you care because you took the time to come here and comment.

      Irony eludes you apparently.

it is great for a single girl living alone… Now all you need is a sound system that will roar when the door opens. It will scare the intruders unconcious!!

      • Allison

They have a multimillion dollar house in Scottsdale, with lots of security. There is no way Willow lives in that apartment. I doubt she actually attended “hair school” either. But I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt on that one.

I think for you two marriage should be off the table at least for a few years. Neither of you are ready nor have you shown the qualities that it takes to make a marriage work. Stop talking about it, stop expecting it, just enjoy your time together without the underlying pressures of marriage and see how you do together.

  • ManxMamma

I think it’s wonderful that a single mom and her sister who is in hair school can afford $1,500 apiece so that they can spend some time together. I sure wish I had that kind of spare change. I’m lucky to get a mani or a pedi every six months!

    • ManxMamma

That’s the cost of a CoolScupture treatment.

      • Jellybean

But jut yesterday, mother sarah while at a Hollywood hotel (NBC cocktail party, so much for their hatred of Hollywood and the lamestream media)commented just how “real” the show is. How it shows the problems that single mothers have. This whole frickin family is delusional and beyond hypocritical.

Yes cool sculpting is a problem every single mother has. Trig Palin is the only good, decent member of that family.

        • Piscean Gal

what he hell is “cool sculpting?” Bristol Palin doesn’t even KNOW the trials and tribulations of a REAL single mom, and it really surprises me when single mom’s “support” her. What exactly are they supporting? I’m a single mom, and I certainly don’t have the “perks” SHE has. I do agree, TRIG is the only LOVELY one out of the bunch, for real…

      • jojo

It’s quite possible the “show” footed the bill…. :)

        • hrh

Or the cool sculpting place itself since the facility had a prominent role.

          It’s called product placement.

Libs never think through their insults.

  • Sara

I loved the bear! Ha I want one in my house! I love you Bristol and will always support you. You’re such an inspiration to me.

  • LissaLang

Oh my gosh jellybean, if you hate Bristol and her family so much then don’t watch her show or read her blog!! Get a freaken clue!!!

  • Sue Lynn

Love the show “Life’ a Tripp” it’s real and teaching at the same time!

    • Jellybean

ya, like ya know, it’s just so real, ya. Ya, like it teaches us that, like, if we get preggos and stuff, we can, like, get a reality show.

    • Piscean Gal

it’s real? It teaches? REALLY? Hmmm, haven’t seen anything of the sort on the show at all…

  • lizzie tullis

lol… i think the bears hilarious… i would tottalllly do that to my sister!!!! poor willow… i love how creeped out she was when she was eating..
but as gettin married.. lifes full of obsticles.. but u n gino look like a happy on love couple.. and you’ll make it!!!! with patience.. prayer.. you guys will be fine <3<3<3. plus. u have great parents as role models…

  • jojo

I wonder how many people REALIZE that REALITY shows are mostly SCRIPTED to make them more interesting ….just sayin’. Don’t believe everything you watch.

  • bellagrazi

I have to be honest, Bristol, I was not a fan of the bear. Haha Too big for Willow’s apartment. A bear rug would’ve been better. I loved Tripp’s “growl”! Hahaha The three of you were super cute doing that. I’m not really a fan of the Cool Sculpting, either. I think it’s probably not that painful for someone who’s been through childbirth (great line! Hahaha) but probably very painful for the rest of us. I think I’ll pass on that one. The posts about Obama seem to get the most reaction on your blog, Bristol. I would assume that most of your fans are not a fan of his. I know I’m not. That’s why it’s always fun for us when you school him. I was extremely proud of Gino for holding onto that bull for as long as he did. He reminds me a lot of your dad. He’ll try anything. And he looked really cute in that cowboy hat! It was great to get a glimpse of your house, Bristol! Absolutely gorgeous! Speaking of gorgeous, you look amazing with a tan! You should spend more time in the sun.

    • BlueVA

“The posts about Obama seem to get the most reaction on your blog, Bristol. I would assume that most of your fans are not a fan of his.” What clued you in, Einstein?

  • mlynn

I love your show Bristol and Tripp is a smart child for a 3 years old boy. I know it is a tough job to raise a child but don’t give up…you are doing a good job.

  • Kim A

Always enjoy watching the show, Bear idea may have not been the right one for Willow!! Agree with the sun tan comment. You look awesome!! You haters out there are really a joke….spend some quality time watching the Kardashians they’re more in touch with your ilk…

  • Laurie

Love your show regardless of what critics say. You and your family are amazing. Thank you for letting us take a peak in y’alls lives. The bear idea cracked my mom and I up although it probably wasn’t the best idea for decorating. =)

i like how bristol says she has to ask her mom if she can ‘cool sculpt’ before her and willow go have the fat cells melted from their tummies.

these two just ooze maturity, class and maturity.

  • ashley

I was curious what you thought about your cool sculpting procedure? I’ve been debating it since I had my second son and I was wondering if you saw the results they claim? If it was worth the money?
