Sportscaster Slams Marching Band – and the US Army Responds! January 8, 2015

Army Field Band

Glad to see the U.S. military setting an example of how to respond to criticism.

During the Rose Bowl on Thursday, sports newscaster Jim Rome tweeted:

Is there anyone not in a marching band who thinks those dorks running around with their instruments are cool?

Maybe it’s “cool” to insult the marching band when you’re in high school… but Rome found out what a mistake he’d made when members of “band nation” across the country started responding to his insult.

And then the U.S. military got involved. Yep, one group that responded was none other than the Army Field Band!

Sergeant First Class Lauren Curran manages the twitter account for the Army’s marching band. They tweeted back:

Just “running around with our instruments,” and serving our country. #ProudtobeinBand #romeisburning #MarchOnRome

Her own response in this interview was gracious and classy. She gave Rome the benefit of the doubt and said he’s probably just “misinformed” about the hard work that really goes into a marching band.

Not sure I would be so nice!

Jim Rome did delete that tweet and apologize. He’s been invited to watch the Army Field Band perform sometime. We’ll see if he takes them up on the offer!
