What Sarah Jessica Parker and I Have in Common

What Sarah Jessica Parker and I Have in Common July 10, 2015

In an upcoming issue of Cosmopolitan, cover star Sarah Jessica Parker tells the magazine that she is not a feminist.

Sarah Jessica Parker is a humanist, not a feminist. […]

“As [playwright] Wendy Wasserstein would say, I’m a humanist. I’m enormously appreciative of the work that my mother’s generation did. We are the beneficiaries of a lot of disappointment, heartache, discouragement, and misunderstanding…”

The blond beauty, who stuns in a sexy pink dress on the cover, added, “I’m not spitting in the face or being lazy about what still needs to be done — but I don’t think it’s just women anymore. We would be so enormously powerful if it were a humanist movement.”

That is such a refreshing way to look at it!  As the mother of a boy, I think both genders deserve respect.

Especially considering that girls have now surpassed boys in most areas of academic success, including SAT scores, GPAs, and attending and graduating college.

Now that the playing field is even, it’s time for us to stop telling girls they are victims of discrimination.  Instead, it’s time to start telling girls AND boys that they can both achieve their dreams if they are willing to work hard for them.
