Why this woman stopped a police officer will give you chills

Why this woman stopped a police officer will give you chills July 27, 2016

In the midst of tragedy and unrest, it’s always good to find a ray of hope.

The recent killing of two black men by white police officers a day a part spurred Black Lives Matter protests across the country, leading to the one in Dallas that turned lethal for cops when a black gunman aimed his rifle at five white officers and pulled the trigger.

In the days since, there have still been demonstrations and unrest but there’s also been people like Kim Muyaka, whose actions are proof that not everyone harbors hate towards cops like the media would have us believe.

This 23-year-old woman went out of her way to find a white officer so that she could pray for him. She told IJ Review that she had been praying about everything that has been happening and felt God telling her to find someone outside of her race to pray with. At a car wash, Muyaka got her chance when she saw a white deputy nearby:

“As I approached him, I honked my horn and told him to come to my car. I slowly opened my car door and said to him, ‘Sir, God has put on my heart to pray with you, not against you.’

As he grabbed my hands I could feel the fear inside him, and his hands were shaking. After I finished praying, he was relieved.”

Muyaka believes most cops are “good people” trying to do their jobs. “Nine times out of ten, it’s not about the cops,” she said. “If a black person kills a black person, no one gets mad, but if a white cop kills a black man, everyone’s upset.”

“Today, judgment is all based on color,” she added. “It should be based something totally different — color has nothing to do with what’s happening. I’ve seen things that happened to white people that I don’t approve of, too.”

Muyaka isn’t the only one with this perspective and more and more stories like hers are coming to light. IJ Review covered two others, including a 72-year-old man named James Jackson who once marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. He said:

“I worked with Dr. King, I’ve been an activist…I’m appalled at the two killing(s) that happened but I’m equally (or) more appalled at the ambush of the law enforcement officers.”

A picture of Jackson was posted to Twitter showing him carrying signs saying black lives and all lives matter:

In Decatur, Alabama, a small group of people brought signs and blocked traffic at a street corner with the purpose of bringing the police out to investigate. Once an officer arrived, the group gathered in a circle and prayed with him on the sidewalk:

Back in Dallas, another video went viral showing Black Lives Matter protesters and counter-protesters putting aside their political differences. The two opposing groups shook hands, hugged, cried and prayed together:

These are the stories that could bring some much needed healing to America. Step away from the noise of the media and let’s continue to search for light in the darkness.
