As if recent tragic events weren’t difficult enough to process, these events have become a political platform to, again, attack the right to own a gun. I find it sad that another national tragedy has immediately been spun into something for political leverage. This was a disturbed individual, a terrorist, a Muslim extremist, who took the lives of those innocent people and injured and devastated countless others. Taya Kyle, wife of American Sniper Chris Kyle, has experienced the effects of gun violence first hand. In fact, as anyone who has read her heartbreaking story or seen the Award-winning film American Sniper knows, it was gun violence that made her a widow in the first place. Yet last night at a CNN town hall with President Obama, Taya wasn’t standing next to the president in solidarity for his anti-gun stance. Instead, she took on the President face-to-face, asking him why he couldn’t celebrate that violent crime rates have plummeted in the U.S. in recent years, and demanding that she have the right to protect her own family from the violence of criminals.

What happens when we have a President who refuses to name our enemies or take the very valid fears of Americans seriously, who would rather lecture the American people and defend his failed foreign policy than actually adapt and put forward a real strategy to defeat the radical Islamic terrorists who want to kill us all?
