Snow Excuse?

Snow Excuse? January 21, 2014

My kids have been home from school today thanks to a prediction of snow here in our “southern” town.  It is all rather funny because as of 4pm, we’ve had only a few flurries! It is blustery and cold outside, but reason enough to cancel school? Definitely not. Yet how were the “powers that be” supposed to know? They don’t foresee the future. No crystal ball is in sight. They make a decision based on the information given to them… and today they’re getting an earful.

It is days like this that remind me how frustrating it can be to live and move in the negative world we do.  One glance at Facebook and all I see is whining and complaining about the poor decision made to cancel school. Had they made the choice to keep school and we were instead deluged by snow, no doubt people would be on there complaining about folks jeopardizing the health and safety of our kids.  Give ’em a break!

I wash my hands of it.

I challenge parents out there to PRESS ON and endure, to remember Christ and His sacrifice on the cross, to keep life in perspective.

When the urge to whine and complain bubbles to the surface, go for a run, punch a punching bag, cook up a storm.  Let’s together turn the tide of our microcosms toward the positive. Let’s allow negativity to roll down our backs and offer a smile in return. We have power to make small changes. Shine on–we can do this!
