I am thrilled to announce the birth of our newest bundle of joy, Sophia Rose! She arrived on September 25th, a week past her due date, and weighed in at an even 8 pounds. We are all in awe of her cuteness and littleness, and even our only son, who was really pulling for a brother (after having 4 sisters!) can't get enough of her.For all of you who have been praying for our family during this pregnancy, thank you so much! We still can't believe that we get to have Sophia home with us - … [Read more...]

(No More) All of a Kind Family

Our boys have loved listening to the All of a Kind Family series by Sydney Taylor, which were originally introduced to us by MaryAlice. We have definitely considered ourselves an "all of a kind" family of the opposite gender. We have very, very boyish boys. Sometimes we refer to the upstairs as the frat house. However, we have shocking (and soooo exciting) news that someone is about to break up the boy party! Our latest ultrasound showed that our growing little one is a GIRL!! The ultrasound … [Read more...]

St. John Paul II on Everyday Life

Do you ever go through periods of time when your schedule is so carefully crafted that any unforeseen obstacle threatens to throw everything out of balance? Most of us can probably answer this question with a resounding "yes!", and some of us might even be feeling this way right now. Personally, our family has a lot going on for the next few weeks: we are in the process of moving, packing, and doing work on our new house, all while I am almost 7 months pregnant, and we are leaving for a family … [Read more...]

Simon of Cyrene and My Way of the Cross

I'll admit, yesterday was a very lousy day.  It was one of those days where I wanted to crawl into a hole, sob, and just go to sleep.  I did a lot of crying, and that always gives me a nice pounding headache.  My name, Kellie, means warrior, and so I often look at the sufferings in my life as parts of a great big spiritual battle.  Holding onto that analogy, last week ended with some sparring, and this week began with a great big uppercut to my jaw.  It was the type of uppercut that knocked me do … [Read more...]

“Natural Family Planning” and Method Effectiveness

Refugees from the sympto-thermal method, my husband and I have begun learning the Creighton model for fertility awareness over the last few months. With five healthy children in seven years, as Mary-Alice says so perfectly, we are “drowning in blessings”!Both the sympto-thermal method and the Creighton model rely on one of the same biomarkers to indicate fertility, and both involve daily charting of signs to determine fertile and infertile days of a cycle. In spite of such noticeable sim … [Read more...]

An African Woman’s Plea to Melinda Gates

Dear friends ~I found this article to be both enlightening and touching, and wanted to share it with all of you. The article details a Nigerian woman's reaction to Melinda Gates' recent announcement that her foundation would be allocating $4.6 billion dollars to providing contraceptives in poor countries. If Bill and Melinda Gates were to spend some time talking with the women of Africa, they might find that that these funds are quite unwelcome. Unlike some Western societies, which fall into … [Read more...]

Brand New All Over Again

Two weeks ago we welcomed our newest Incredi-bundle, a handsome baby boy! (We usually make more timely announcements, but all the builders have had a lot on their plates recently!) Bundle of joy could not be a more appropriate term. When our third son was born, our oldest was not even 3, so I essentially had 3 babies. This has been a whole new experience with three aware brothers to welcome our baby into the world! No yawn, smile or hiccup goes unnoticed by adoring brothers. I am … [Read more...]

Water Baby

With T minus 11 days until my due date, my mind is naturally gravitating toward labor and delivery. These thoughts abounded the other day while I was swimming laps in the pool, dreaming about the upcoming event and wondering how it was going to all play out.  Swimming this pregnancy has been a godsend in so many ways.  My end-of-pregnancy back pain is at an all-time low, my muscles feel more agile and relaxed, I have less pelvic floor discomfort--much of this I am crediting to swimming.  It is … [Read more...]

Desperate Times… for desperate measures. There is a wall that many of us tend to hit sometime in the 8th month of pregnancy that leads us into some sort of delirious state in which we are willing to try anything to induce labor naturally.Between all of the builders, we have probably tried every old wives tales for inducing labor. Some of them potentially credible. Others not. Some of them probably not fit to share here. Here is a study published in a medical journal that my midwife linked to on … [Read more...]
