Magical Monday: Clearing Clutter

Magical Monday: Clearing Clutter August 3, 2015

Every Monday, I’ll share a simple spell or charm that I use in my own busy practice. Remember, magic doesn’t always have to be a formal affair!

I’ve been in a decluttering mindset lately, but as important as it is to do some spiritual and emotional decluttering, it’s also vital to keep your physical space free from distraction and unnecessary items. I always think better when my physical space is in order, but I’ve also come to realize that removing things I no longer need or love from my home opens the way for new manifestations of abundance. The last time I cleaned out my closet, I received a surprise outfit in the mail that day from my mom, who likes to pick up little somethings for me from time to time: clutter out, abundance in!

Ready to create more openness and abundance in your life?

1. Pick one room or spot in your home. Clutter clearing is overwhelming sometimes, and it’s best to work in small, focused efforts.

2. Empty the closet, cupboards, or shelves of that spot. Starting with a clean canvas is important!

3. As you begin to put things away, ask yourself, “Do I need this? Do I use it? Do I love it?” If you answer “no” to all three questions, out it goes. A “yes” in any category is enough reason to keep it, as long as you are being truthful with yourself.

4. Sort the things you are parting with into two piles: donation-ready (still in good condition), and trash. (Please don’t donate old lingerie…that’s just…ugh!)

5. Take the donation items IMMEDIATELY to the thrift store/mission/shelter/etc. If you leave them in the house, you may find that you “rescue” things the longer you wait, and that’s not beneficial.

6. Out with the old, in with the new! Hopefully, you’re feeling energized: for me, clearing clutter in my space always clears my energy, as well. If you want, keep going in another area of your home, and know that you are making room for abundance and beauty to flow into your life.
