The winter holidays are a time of joy and abundance, but they can also bring more than their fair share of stress and worries. If you are already starting to feel more anxious than usual, consider this post your permission to let it go.

When I’m getting wound up, the best way I know to clear my mind and start fresh (and refreshed) is to do something that feeds my soul. Curl up on the couch with your favorite book, take a bubble bath, or spend some solitary time drumming. The key here isn’t so much what you choose to do, but how you choose to do it: funnel all your energy into whatever it is you are doing, and you’ll be surprised when you emerge moments or hours later and realize that you forgot to give into your worries while you were occupied. It’s a simple thing, really, but something we too often forget (or ignore), especially at this time of year: taking time, even for a few minutes, to focus with single-minded attention on something that makes you smile is often the best stress relief.

May your days be merry and bright, and may we remember to love ourselves so much that there isn’t room in our hearts or minds for seasonal stress.
