Santorum: Obama Is A "Snob" For Wanting All To Go To College And Be "Made In His Image"

Santorum’s courageous crusade against college continues.

The Republican presidential primary has turned into the longest, most amazing game of limbo in human history. The bar just keeps getting lower and lower and lower and the candidates keep worming their way under it in hitherto unfathomable ways.

Speaking as an European, the fact that a man that has a shot at being presidental candidate is able to show such an amount of unadulterated ignorance and stupidity without getting laughed out of the stage doesn’t speak well of the state of US politics…

Because you totally are the only person to notice that the entire North American Public are complete idiots.

Thoughts: These people don’t have any. And don’t anyone else accidentally picking up the ability in college. Or primary or secondary school, either. (But did you know that colleges aren’t run by easily manipulated school boards? They are far more dangerous!)

College (or academia, at least) may not be for everyone but the open hostility towards education and the hope that every child can better themselves through it is just sickening.

Santorum would take this country backwards. Between this most recent comment, his desire for home-schooling, his belief in creationism, lack of belief in climate change, etc. he has to be the worst candidate on education that we have ever had. His disdain for education is stunning.

  • ‘Tis Himself, OM

Considering that the Frothy One has a BA and JD from Penn State and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, it would appear he’s just a little hypocritical about not wanting other people to go to college.

…it would appear he’s just a little hypocritical about not wanting other people to go to college.

He’s afraid of the competition if anyone else goes to college too.

Good description – sadly quite apt.

The 2012 Republican race has long since stopped being a circus and descended into freakshow classification instead.

  • Ace of Sevens

The scary thing is all the negative reactions from the first couple times he said it aren’t getting him to tone it down.

    • Margaret

No, the scary thing is all the people who are applauding his efforts to further dumb down America. The negative reaction from all us college-educated liberals is a feature, not a bug.

  • desoto

Why don’t we stop breathing! I hear Obama breathes – the snobbery of it all!!

  • Sheesh

You know what really makes liberals mad?! Drinking bleach! God, they hate it. I hear Obama super hates it when you drink bleach!!

  • Sheesh

Those hippies are always, “blah blah blah drinking bleach is so bad for you and so bad for the environment.” We’ll show those hippies! Even the liberal David Brooks hates hippies.

  • cunliph

Why don’t we just give up on education. It obviously hasn’t done any good for our country. New education policy from Santorum “All Children Left Behind”.

  • jay

I am not supporting that obviously ignorant clown.

However (don’t you love that word), I think the obsession with college degrees over the past few decades has had a significant negative effect, and has created a deeper divide between haves and have-nots.

It has become so much a normal requirement to have a degree, that now one can hardly get a job in a shoe store without a degree. At the same time there are many many people for whom college is out of the question, for financial or family or other reasons. Plenty of these people are becoming sealed by an artificial ceiling keeping them away from jobs they could realistically perform because they don’t have the pedigree.

It has actually made it much harder to migrate upward in the job market.

    • yulaffin

Agree with this. Too much emphasis on getting a degree and not enough thought given to those who don’t want or can’t go to college but do want marketable skills to use in the workforce.

If you want to know why kids are getting pushed so hard to go to college and who the snobs are, keep in mind that “Well, it’s their fault for not getting an education” is easily in the top 5 on the List of Conservative Excuses for Why Working People Don’t Deserve A Living Wage.

I don’t recall that Obama ever said everyone should go to college; I think he said something like “everyone who wants to can go to college.” And he said something about technical and community colleges. Does anyone have the exact quote?

Here’s the part that really creeps me out: “I want to create jobs so people can remake their children in their image not his.” Say what? To survive in the economy they will live in, my children had better be ready to become something I never was.

And why do politicians of all stripes think they can just “create jobs”? Is there some magic wand?

    • http://jfinite.blogspot.com Justin Bonaparte

Yes, I don’t have the quote, but I think Obama most likely said something similar to that. Which I agree with; college is not for everyone, but I believe the President wants everyone who wishes to go to be able to do so without being mired in debt for the next 20 years.
