Today I am making a guest appearance on my dear friend Kaveh Mousavi’s On the Margin of Error blog. He interviewed me about liberty. He asked 7 questions. Here is my answer to one of them: Kaveh Mousavi: Do you think critical thinking is important for a truly free society or person? Can we be free [Read More...]

Discrimination Against Atheist Invocations by Local Legislatures

In their spring ruling in Greece v Galloway the Supreme Court upheld the practice of giving sectarian prayers at the head of legislative meetings as Constitutional. Since reading the Court’s opinion, I have wanted to write about 8 articles about all that was wrong with it. Then last week Megan Hamilton, a journalist, asked me for [Read More...]

Social Pushback On Slurs Does Not Violate Free Speech Rights

When someone tells you not to call black people “niggers” or women “cunts” or gays “fags” or transgender people “trannies” or the mentally disabled “retards” or your enemies “assholes”, “douchebags”, “idiots”, or “stupid”, etc., this is not a free speech issue. How I Wish The Homosexuality Debate Would Go

Trevin Wax at The Gospel Coalition wrote a hypothetical conversation between an anti-homosexuality Christian pastor and a pro-gay talk show host called “How I Wish the Homosexuality Debate Would Go”. Since this article was recommended on Facebook no less than 18,000 times, I take it that many Christians found it reasonable, likely even taking it to be an ideal representation of their own views. So, I want to take seriously this Christian speaking for many other Christians in his own fictional representative’s words. In this post, I offer the remarks I would make were I also on this show, responding to the hypothetical pastor’s each comment. [Read more...]
