The Rev. Dr. J. Carl Gregg (D.Min., D.A.S.D, M.Div., B.A.) is a New York Times-reading, vegetarian-eating Progressive Christian, who also loves Centering Prayer, Ultimate Frisbee, and praying-by-biking-to-work. Since July 2010, Carl has been the pastor of Broadview Church in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, an inclusive, open-minded congregation with progressive values .

A native of Florence, South Carolina, he is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Philosophy in 2000. In 2003, he graduated from Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth, Texas, having earned a Masters of Divinity. For the next seven years, Carl served as the associate pastor at Northminster Church in Monroe, Louisiana.

In 2009, he completed his training as a spiritual director through the Diploma in the Art of Spiritual Direction program at San Francisco Theological Seminary, and graduated with a Doctor of Ministry from the same institution in May 2012. He is currently in the process of revising his dissertation, "Practicing Communion in Progressive, Free Church Congregations," into a popularized form for publication.

Carl has taught “Introduction to the Hebrew Bible” as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and is the secretary on the national board of the Alliance of Baptists, “a movement of progressive Christians seeking to respond to the continuing call of God in a rapidly changing world.”

Carl lives with his wife Magin LaSov Gregg, who is a Lecturer in English and Modern Languages at Bowie State University. They have three cats (Pepper Poe, Kol Nidre, and Shamash Chaim) and two dogs (Dobby Templeton and Scout "Boo Radley").
