Quote for the Day

If I were to say 'I know God', I would be a liar. God is beyond comprehension. Better to be silent and live in humility. If I were to say, 'I do not know God', I would also be a liar.— Jean-Yves Leloup, Being Still: Reflections on an Ancient Mystical Tradition … [Read more...]

Mysticism Wow

When I was a teenager listening to rock music (okay, so I'm a midlifer who still listens to rock, but that's another story), among my friends the worst thing you could say about a musician or a band was that they had "gone commercial." The idea was that pop and rock existed on a continuum, with "pure musicianship" at one end and "money-grubbing sell-outs" at the other. Arguing Theology and Mysticism

Here's an excerpt of a comment I've left on one of last week's posts on this blog, in response to some other folks' comments. I thought it was worth highlighting here on center stage. But even the Kodak can take some nice photos for the web.The Creek at DeSoto Falls, White County, GeorgiaUpper DeSoto Falls, White County, Georgia After Rhiannon finished her day program, she … [Read more...]

The Legacy of Bridget Cleary

This morning I saw two sad stories online: one about a mother who killed her 6 year old daughter, believing she was possessed by the devil, and the other — from a few months ago — in which a man explained the killing of his two stepdaughters as the consequence of a "spell gone bad."Both of these tragic stories remind me of the horrible Burning of Bridget Cleary, a notorious 1895 murder in rural Ireland where a man attributed his wife's illness to the malevolent influence of the fairies, and bur … [Read more...]
