A Tale of Two Bibles

This morning I woke up around two thirty after having a dream, which I wrote down:I dreamt that a young man came to see me, with two gifts. They were both Bibles. We chatted a bit about how much he enjoyed my website and my writing, and so wanted to give me a Bible as a token of appreciation.I smiled and opened the first box. In it was a gorgeous hardcover edition of the New American Standard Bible. I oohed and aahed over it and mentioned how happy I was with it, since I had the NASB … [Read more...]

A Dream in Light and Dark

Last night I dreamt the following dream. I woke up just before three AM, and wrote it down so I wouldn't forget it. The dream began in a large, bustling, beautiful church, radiant with soft light and featuring marble flooring, pillars, and walls. I wasn’t in the sanctuary, but in a commons area. It was Holy Saturday and everyone was making preparations for the festivities of the following day. It must have been a version of First Christian Church of Atlanta, for Kris and Rick were the pastors. I … [Read more...]

Go Ask Alice

We saw Alice in Wonderland Saturday evening. It's getting lukewarm reviews and that's pretty much how I feel about it. Of course, it was visually rich, and even without the obligatory presence of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter, it had Tim Burton's fingerprints all over it. Other critics have complained that it feels t … [Read more...]

But I just discovered it this morning, and it seemed worthy of passing on.I am reminded of the passage from the prophet Joel that we used to quote to each other all the time back when I was immersed in charismatic spirituality: Then afterward I will pour out my spirit upon all mankind. Your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, … [Read more...]

A Kiss from Mom and a Lesson About Suffering

Early this morning (August 15, 2009) I had a dream in which I was standing outside a building, like an officer’s club on a small military base. It felt like I was in Florida or somewhere else where the winters are mild. There may have been palm trees, but I’m not sure. What I do remember is that I stood outside the building, with tables and chairs all around me, as if this were a place where people can gather and share a meal. Perhaps there were a few others milling about; again, I don’t recall f … [Read more...]

Dream wisdom

Last night I had a dream, and most of the details I now can't recall. But I do remember that someone in the dream offered this nugget of wisdom: In marriage, when you keep score, nobody wins. Frankly, that also holds true for miniature golf. … [Read more...]
