St. Aloysius Gonzaga died quite young from caring for plague victims, but when his final hour came, he had long before entrusted both his life and his death to Mary.

O holy Mary, my mistress,
into your blessed trust and special blessing, into the bosom of your tender mercy,
this day,
every day of my life,
and at the hour of my death, I commend my soul and body.

To you I entrust
all my hopes and consolations, all my trials and miseries,
my life and the end of my life,
that through your most holy intercession and your merits,
all my actions may be ordered and disposed according to your will
and that of your divine Son.

—St. Aloysius Gonzaga

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .
Do I maintain a lively awareness that this day could be my last? Have I entrusted both this day and my last day to the Mother of God?

CLOSING PRAYER
From “The Seven Dolors of Mary at the Death of Jesus”: O Mary, befriend me when I take leave of my friends, and my soul is about to part from my body in the bitterness of death, so that the Enemy may have no power over me.
