O Stella Maris!, Mary: Day 160

O Stella Maris!, Mary: Day 160 December 28, 2015

year_with_mary_paul_thigpenO Stella Maris!

In darkness and in doldrums, in storms and in shallows, we cry out to Our Lady Stella Maris, Star of the Sea, for safety and certainty in our voyage home to her Son.

O brilliant star above the sea, our beacon to eternity,
whose beams beyond the surging wave draw all to him who came to save: To heaven’s harbor, through the night, O Stella Maris, be our light!

When darkness deepens, storms assail, when charity and courage fail, when hope gives way to doubt and fear, with deadly shallows lying near: Illumine us, our faith increase; O Stella Maris, star of peace!

When doldrums gently lull to sleep, when comforts slow the course we keep; when we forget our destiny and, aimless, drift upon the sea;
when siren songs tempt us to roam, O Stella Maris, lead us home!

For all uncertain on their way, for all whose maps have led astray,
with compass lost or found untrue, whose hearts, unknowing, cry to you: Point heavenward above the tide; O Stella Maris, be our guide!

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .
Do I ask Mary’s help, not only when I’m afraid or in danger, but also when pleasant temptations beckon me to stray?

CLOSING PRAYER
Blessed Lady, Star of the Sea, radiant beacon guiding us to your glorious Son, pray for us that the light of faith will shine through us, and that Jesus Christ, the Dawn from on high, will rule among us in the splendor of holiness.
