Each order interprets the order above, Angels: Day 036 August 26, 2016

Dionysius  the Areopagite tells us that the angels on any level of  the hierarchinterpret what  they learn from the rank above for the sake of  the rank below. The Seraphim, at the top of the hierarchy, learn from God himself. And even within the same rank of the hierarchy, there are different positions.

All angels are interpreters of those above them. The most reverend an- gels interpret God, who moves them, directly. The rest are interpreters, in their own positions, of the ones who have been moved by God.

In the harmony of all things, each of the rational and intellectual beings has its own place and its own work. We also see that each hierarchy is placed in a sacred order, and every one of the three hierarchies is itself divided into first, middle, and last powers.

But, to speak correctly, God has given each division itself the same kind of divine organization. This is why the theologians say that the Seraphim cry one to another. I think this shows distinctly that the first give their knowledge of the divine to the second. –Dionysius the Areopagite, The Celestial Hierarchy, 10

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .

All earthly authority is dependent on light from Heaven. From whom do I usually learn about things that have to do with faith?

CLOSING PRAYER
