Giving the devil his due; Angels: Day 140

Giving the devil his due; Angels: Day 140 December 8, 2016

angels_rufinusEach of  us, says Rufinus of  Aquileia, will get the reward we have earned in the final judgment. And that goes for the devil, too, who—along  with all his angels—has  earned the eternal fire.

In addition, I believe in a judgment to come, in which everyone will receive the reward he earned in his bodily life, according to what he has done, whether good or evil.

And if the reward for us humans is to be according to our works, imagine how much more this will be true in the case of the devil, who is the universal cause of sin. Of the devil himself our belief is what is written in the Gospel: that both he and all his angels will receive as their portion the eternal fire, and with him those who do his works—that is, who become the accusers of their brethren.

So if anyone denies that the devil is to be subjected to the eternal fires, may he have his part with him in the eternal fire, so that he may know by experience the fact that he now denies. –Rufinus of Aquileia, Apology, 5

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .

Do I accept what God has revealed, and what the Church teaches about the devil and about Hell?

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord, protect me from evil, save me from the fires of Hell. May  my life be judged worthof Heaven where I wish to spend eternity with your angels and saints.
