Everyone has a guardian angel; Angels: Day 213 February 21, 2017

angels_methodiusEven children of adultery, says one of the characters in St. Methodius’s  Banquet of  the Ten Virgins, have guardian angels caring for them,  because,  as human beings, they are “copies  and living pictures of Christ.”

Nature could not accomplish such a great work in such a little time with- out divine help. Who gave the bones their fixed nature? Who bound the soft members with muscles, to be extended and relaxed at the joints? Who made channels for the blood, and a soft windpipe for the breath? What other god could have made the humors ferment, mixing them with blood and forming the soft flesh out of the earth? No one but the Supreme Artist, who makes us human, the rational and living image of himself. He forms it like wax in the womb from a tiny moist seed.

By whose providence is it that the fetus is not drowned when shut up in the connected vessels? And after it is brought forth into the light, who changes it from a weak, tiny thing to size, beauty, and strength? As I said, it can only be God, the Supreme Artist, making copies and living pictures of Christ by his creative power.

This is why the inspired Scriptures tell us that even those who are begotten by adultery are committed to guardian angels. –St. Methodius, Banquet of the Ten Virgins, 2.6

IN GOD’S PRESENCE, CONSIDER . . .

If I have to deal with someone I don’t like, have I tried praying to that person’s guardian angel?

CLOSING PRAYER

Blessed guardian angels, spread your wings over all who need your care, and lead them safely to rest in the Lord.
